Israel Convinced It's Electing The American President. Mitt Backs Israel's Decision Against Iran.

Mitt Romney backs Israel against nuclear-armed Iran - video

On a trip to Jerusalem's Old City, US Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney declares solidarity with Israel against threats from Iran. Romney says the US under his presidency would 'not look away' in the face of an existential challenge against the Jewish state and says the US must prevent Tehran from possessing nuclear weapons

Israel elects a president

Israel convinced that it is the one electing the American president - that the decision on who will lead the United States, and the world, rests in its hands.

By Zvi Bar'el Aug.01, 2012 | 3:13 AM

American Presidential Candidate Syndrome is a disease that has afflicted every Israeli government, as well as Israeli society as a whole. The symptoms of this syndrome are well known, and like a chronic ulcer, they recur every four years.
The most prominent symptom is that for a moment, Israel becomes convinced that it is the one electing the American president - that the decision on who will lead the United States, and the world, rests in its hands. But since it is impossible to confine an entire country to a facility for the mentally impaired, there's nothing to do but recognize this syndrome as if it were true as true can be. That's what happens when a nation is Napoleonic, in the clinical sense of the word.
After all, eight million Israelis can't be wrong. Thus, Israel is dreaming of electing the American president, and Mitt Romney is its preferred candidate. Some things don't need to be said explicitly to be understood. Love is like that.
Romney also knows that Israel's enthusiasm carries a price: It comes with a checklist dictating a list of conditions that the presidential candidate must satisfy if he wishes to earn the Israeli public's support. So far, Romney has met them all.
A trip to Israel? Check. Contempt for the Palestinians? Check. A pledge to move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem? Check. Admiration for Jewish genes? Check. Nary a word about the occupation? Check. Support for an attack on Iran? Absolutely.
This, therefore, is the man who ought to replace the Muslim president now sitting in the White House. Barack Hussein Obama - who prevented recognition of a Palestinian state, who caved in when faced with the Wild West outposts in the territories (after a pathetic attempt to freeze construction in the settlements ), who is bestowing all the most advanced equipment on Israel, who has mobilized the world against Iran, and above all, who has understood that you can't spank the rebellious Israeli child, but can only mutter "I don't approve" - is no longer suitable for Israel.
In effect, he was unsuitable from the very first moment, when he told leaders of the American Jewish community that Israel must engage in some soul-searching with regard to its peace policy. Just imagine: An American president who received nearly 80 percent of the Jewish vote telling Israel to do some soul-searching.
This is the root of the loathing and anger that the current government and the man who heads it feel toward Obama. One could overlook an American president embarking on a campaign of reconciliation with the Muslim world. One could turn a blind eye to "misunderstandings" and uncomfortable rhetoric, to chilly receptions and angry phone calls - like the one Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in March 2010, after Israel announced the construction of 1,600 housing units in East Jerusalem during a visit by Vice President Joe Biden.
Messianic Israel knows that not everyone has yet adopted the true faith. But it is convinced that in the end, everyone will find enlightenment. Therefore, it doesn't get insulted when an American president criticizes its policy, and especially not when the president in question is a "Muslim" like Obama or a "leftist" like Bill Clinton. Like the Israeli left, they, too, have forgotten what it means to be Jewish.
But it is unforgivable for an American president to tell Israel to engage in soul-searching.
Soul-searching is something that Israel, and only Israel, is entitled to demand of others. Someone who urges Israel to engage in soul-searching is challenging absolute justice, even divinity itself. Such a demand casts doubt on Israel's raison d'etre - not as a state of refuge for Jews, but as the realization of a divine promise.
For there is more than enough room between Gedera and Hadera to serve as a refuge for Jews, and even a bit more north of the Kishon River. A refuge doesn't have to be located in the stony hillsides of Samaria. The Promised Land, in contrast, is a matter between the government and its Creator. No president, whether American or Malaysian, has the right to thrust himself between them.
Romney understands this idea: He has adopted it and is marketing it to all and sundry. He won't demand any soul-searching of Israel, or any "reconsideration" of its policies. Romney is well-suited to us, and we to him.
In the best-case scenario, he knows that this is a crazy country, so one can't tell the truth to its face. In the more realistic scenario, he is afflicted with that same syndrome, which drove him to come to Israel to touch holiness.

‘STANDING OVATION’: HERE‘S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT MITT ROMNEY’S TRIP TO ISRAEL

Posted on July 29, 2012 at 8:47pm by Erica Ritz Erica Ritz

Standing on Israeli soil, U.S. presidential candidate Mitt Romney declared Jerusalem to be the capital of the Jewish state and said the United States has “a solemn duty and a moral imperative” to block Iran from achieving nuclear weapons capability.
“Make no mistake, the ayatollahs in Iran are testing our moral defenses. They want to know who will object and who will look the other way,” he said. “We will not look away nor will our country ever look away from our passion and commitment to Israel.”
The Old City formed a made-for-television backdrop behind Romney, while some of his campaign donors listened in the audience.
Here are clips from the speech on Iran:
Romney‘s declaration that Jerusalem is Israel’s capital follows an awkward exchange last week where White House Press Secretary Jay Carney refused to say where exactly the White House believes the capital of Israel to be.
And Romney’s remarks drew a standing ovation from his audience, according to the Associated Press.
But the presidential candidate’s embrace of Israel was on display all day, as he met with Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu and other leaders.  The Israeli press, normally somewhat left-leaning, was more curious about Romney and his relationship with Netanyahu than critical, according to reports.
The Washington correspondent for the Israeli site Haaretz explained: “I don’t think they know [Romney] that deep — but they are suspicious enough of President Obama to express some hopes for Romney as possible leader of the free world.”

Today’s Haaretz headline reads: “In Jerusalem speech it was Romney‘s voice but Netanyahu’s words: Netanyahu embraces Romney as no prime minister has ever embraced a candidate running against an incumbent U.S. president.”
Politico sums it up: “Given Obama’s frosty relationship with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Romney’s relationship with ‘Bibi’ — which dates back to their time as colleagues at Boston Consulting Group in the 1970s — formed a cornerstone of Israeli press coverage over the weekend.”
Romney also visited the Western Wall, Judaism’s holiest site, and held a meeting with Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad.
Romney steered clear of overt criticism of the president during his remarks, but made it clear that he doesn‘t buy Obama’s narrative.
“It is sometimes said that those who are the most committed to stopping the Iranian regime from security nuclear weapons are reckless and provocative and inviting war…The opposite is true. We are the true peacemakers,” Romney said.

Israel is the second of three stops on an international trip for Romney in the weeks before he claims the Republican nomination at his party’s national convention in Tampa, Fla.
Robert Gibbs said on ABC’s “This Week” that the administration has delayed Iran’s nuclear program through its various diplomatic initiatives, but Netanyahu countered before Romney’s speech that “all the sanctions and diplomacy so far have not set back the Iranian program by one iota.”

RFID. 666. THE BEAST. ALL IN THE HEALTHCARE LAW?

THIS IS SUCH A CONTROVERSIAL TOPIC.

BY NOW, I AM SURE THAT YOU HAVE HEARD OF THE RFID CHIP, WHICH STANDS FOR THE RADIO-FREQUENCY IDENTIFICATION DEVICE.

THERE IS RUMOR THAT THE OBAMACARE BILL IS MAKING IT MANDATORY FOR THE RFID CHIP TO BE IMPLANTED IN ALL WHO PARTICIPATE.

I DON'T SEE THIS AS HAPPENING BY 2013, WHICH IS THE RUMOR AND I AM NOT SURE, ACCORDING TO THE LEGAL SPEAK IN THE BILL, IF THIS IS REALLY ACTUALLY EVEN IN THE BILL.

HERE IS WHAT I FOUND...REMEMBER, THIS IS ON THE INTERNET SO TAKE IT AS BEING FOUND ON THE NET...

Does it mandate that you receive such a chip or be denied healthcare? There are these rumors floating around, so I read the parts of the bill that supposedly pertain to this and I have attempted here to break it down for you as sensibly and clearly as possible, so we can all understand this a bit better.

Human implantation
The Food and Drug Administration in the US has approved the use of RFID chips in humans. Some business establishments give customers the option of using an RFID-based tab to pay for service, such as the Baja Beach nightclub in Barcelona. This has provoked concerns into privacy of individuals as they can potentially be tracked wherever they go by an identifier unique to them. There are concerns this could lead to abuse by an authoritarian government or lead to removal of freedoms.
On July 22, 2006, Reuters reported that two hackers, Newitz and Westhues, at a conference in New York City showed that they could clone the RFID signal from a human implanted RFID chip, showing that the chip is not hack-proof as was previously claimed.
Surgery, even on a small scale, comes with its risks. The RFID chip implantation is no exception. According to David B. Smith, the author of "Using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Technology in Humans in the United States for Total Control," Smith gives the examples of health risks such as "…adverse tissues reaction migration of implanted transponder, compromised information security, failure of implanted transponder, failure of insertion, failure of electronic scanner, electromagnetic interference, electrical hazards, magnetic resonance imaging incompatibility and needle stick" (38). Such risks exist for anyone undergoing an implantation procedure.
Government control
With the rise of technology, some individuals have grown to fear the loss of rights due to RFID human implantation.
By early 2007, Chris Paget of San Francisco, California, showed that RFID information can be pulled from individuals by using only $250 worth of equipment. This supports the claim that with the information captured, it would be relatively simple to make counterfeit passports.
According to ZDNet, critics believe that this technology will lead to tracking individuals every movement and will be an invasion of privacy. Some conceptualize a future where every movement is tracked by the government.
In the book SpyChips: How Major Corporations and Government Plan to Track Your Every Move by Katherine Albrecht and Liz McIntyre, one is encouraged to "imagine a world of no privacy. Where your every purchase is monitored and recorded in a database and your every belonging is numbered. Where someone many states away or perhaps in another country has a record of everything you have ever bought. What's more, they can be tracked and monitored remotely".

RFID chip next to a grain of rice. This chip contains a radio-frequency electromagnetic field coil that modulates an external magnetic field to transfer a coded identification number when queried by a reader device. This small type is incorporated in consumer products, and even implanted in pets, for identification.

Nazi ID Tattoos & RFID Chip Connection? Amazingly, YES!By Michael Hathman
Believe it or not, there is an actual connection between the Nazi identification tattoos of World War II Death Camps and the current RFID Program.  Where does it lay?  IBM of course!
All governments gather information about their citizens. The Nazi regime, however, used such information to track political opponents, enforce racial policies, and, ultimately, implement mass murder. As early as 1934, various government bureaus began to compile card catalogs identifying political and racial enemies of the regime, such as Freemasons, Jews, Sinti and Roma (Gypsies), and "genetically diseased" persons.
The 1939 census became the basis for a national register of Jews. That year, German census forms for the first time included explicitly racial categories. Jews were identified not only by religious affiliation, but by race as well. Within three years, the completed national register of Jews and some Jewish Mischlinge ("mixed breeds") was to become one of the sources for Nazi deportation lists. Most of those deported perished in the Holocaust.
During the 1930s and 1940s, Hollerith machines were the best data processing devices available. The Nazi regime employed thousands of people in 1933 to 1939 to record national census data onto Hollerith punch cards. The SS used the Hollerith machines during the war to monitor the large numbers of prisoners shipped in and out of concentration camps. The machines were manufactured by DEHOMAG-Deutsche Hollerith Maschinen Gesellschaft or German Hollerith Machine Company, a subsidiary of IBM since 1922.
It is an interesting and little known fact that the former CEO of IBM, Thomas J. Watson was a good friend of Adolf Hitler.  IBM Germany (known in those days as Dehomag) was deeply involved in the Nazi War Effort.  Every Deathcamp in the Reich operated an IBM Hollerith Department which was heavily involved in the identification of detainees.
The 5 digit Hollerith number was devised along with a punchcard system by IBM using software programming in its earliest form.  These Hollerith machines were used to streamline civil and slave labor for the Reich.  These IBM Hollerith machines matched worker skills and locations with labor needs during the building of the Nazi War Machine.
The prisoner was worked until exhausted and then exterminated by gas or bullet.  Only then would the worker escape the 5 digit number only to receive a 6 digit number reserved for those who were to be eradicated.  The automation of human destruction was done for no other reason than to provide revenue for IBM.
Fast forward to today.  IBM Credit Corp. is now providing funding for the parent company of the Verichip, Applied Digital Solutions.  It is interesting to note in the name, "Applied Digital" sound like the stamping or tattooing of digits.  Solutions sounds an awful like "Final Solution(s)" enacted by the criminals of the Third Reich.
World governments, seeing the need to "protect" its citizens from "threats" is becoming a global trend.  It appears that the need for tracking has been ramped up - especially since the onset of the "War on Terror" and 9/11.  Additionally, the Verichip is being marketed to assist in "better health management" for patients and the tracking of lost pets and missing children.
It is thought that, through the "gradual implementation and gradual introduction" of such controversial measures, people can eventually become "accepting" of such things.  The CEO of Verichip, Silverman, states that the chip will be used for enforcement purposes at the employer level.  Verichip maintains that as a product it cannot be lost, stolen, misplaced, is safe and secure, reversible and is always with you.
IBM has proposed a global identity management solution and according to Cal Slemp, VP and global leader for security at IBM Global Services states, "Global identity verification is a mess and is required to be cleaned up with biometrics."
When the next 9/11 occurs and martial law is instituted by global government, and upheld by global paramilitary policing agencies, will you be considered an "Enemy of the State" if you refuse to comply with madatory human chipping?  Will you be considered the "New Jew" or "New Christian" subject to prosecution (and or termination) if you fail to comply?  After all, you're only "just a number" right?
Here is the question we must ask ourselves: If IBM helped the Nazi Regime to exterminate millions with the Hollerith Machine, imagine with the aid of technology today, including RFID, biometrics, satellite, surveillance cams, info and dna databases fueled by a never ending "War on Terror".
Nazi Concentration Camp Pictures
Is the WWII IBM Hollerith Machine the equivalent to today's IBM-backed Verichip?  There can be no doubt.  Then, how must we act to prevent history from being repeated again?  The choice is yours.
My opinion is that this technology is the forerunner of the "mark" spoken of by Saint John the Divine in the Holy Bible:
Revelation 13: 16-1816 It also forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads, 17 so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name.
18 This calls for wisdom. Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man.[a] That number is 666.
Revelation 14: 9 & 109 A third angel followed them and said in a loud voice: “If anyone worships the beast and its image and receives its mark on their forehead or on their hand, 10 they, too, will drink the wine of God’s fury, which has been poured full strength into the cup of his wrath. They will be tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb.
Revelation 14:11And the smoke of their torment will rise for ever and ever. There will be no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and its image, or for anyone who receives the mark of its name.”

Geomagnetic Storm Warning. Solar Activity Picks Up.

GEOMAGNETIC STORM WARNING: NOAA forecasters estimate a 45% chance of polar geomagnetic storms on July 29-30 in response to a high-speed solar wind stream buffeting Earth's magnetic field. Even stronger storming could occur on July 31st when a CME associated with yesterday's M6-flare arrives. High-latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras for the next three nights.

SOLAR ACTIVITY PICKS UP: Sunspot AR1532 is crackling with M-class solar flares. The latest, an M6-class eruption on July 28th (2056 UT), produced a bright flash of extreme ultraviolet radiation, shown here in a snapshot from the Solar Dynamics Observatory:

Update: Contrary to earlier reports, this explosion did produce a CME and the cloud is heading for Earth. According to a forecast track prepared by analysts at the Goddard Space Weather Lab, the CME will reach our planet on July 31st at 1500 UT (+/- 7 hours). Weak to moderate geomagnetic storms are possible when the cloud arrives.

Magnetic active region 1520-1521 erupted again (July 19, 2012) at the edge of the Sun, this time producing an M7-class flare that almost crossed the threshold into X-territory (largest). Associated with the flare was a coronal mass ejection observed by SOHO's two coronagraphs. The small, white particles splattering the CCD for hours after the eruption are high-energy protons moving at half the speed of light. The front edge of the mass ejection was clocked at over 2 million miles an hour.

Super-sized Loops
Magnetic field lines between two active regions extended across about one-third of the Sun to make their connections (July 23-24, 2012). The magnetically powerful active regions were just rotating into view, giving us a wonderful profile of their activity. The lower active region also spurts out several bursts of plasma as well. The looping arcs above each active region shows off the field lines nicely too. The video clip covers about 36 hours of activity in extreme ultraviolet light.

Israel On High Alert! Breaking: Syria Moving Chemical Weapons To Border Positions

ISRAEL ON ALERT AS SYRIA MOVES CHEMICAL WEAPONS TO BORDER POSITIONS

 26 Jul 2012, 2:00 AM PDT

Coinciding perfectly with Obama's warning not to use chemical weapons, Assad's government appears to have shifted the location of their chemical weapons for the very purpose against which Obama warned.

According to reports, "Assad has transferred some of [the] weapons and equipment for mixing chemical components to airports on the [Syrian] border."

These same reports indicate that Assad only plans to use the weapons on foreign invaders or "an outside force," which is in keeping with his pledge. But there are obvious concerns that a desperate Assad may take desperate measures if cornered.

Israel is watching to be sure the weapons haven't been placed at the airports in order to be transferred into Lebanon, and from there into the hands of Hezbollah.

In no uncertain terms Israel made things clear: "The moment we see that the Syrians transfer chemical and biological weapons to Hezbollah, this is a red line for us and from our point of view it's a clear cause for war."

The Pentagon has reached an agreement with Lockheed Martin Corp on a $450 million program to enhance electronic warfare equipment on the F-35 fighter jet, and integrate Israeli-unique systems beginning in 2016, sources familiar with the negotiations told Reuters on Thursday.

According to the report, the deal, to be finalized in the coming weeks, marks a big step forward for Israel's $2.75 billion agreement to buy 19 F-35 jets, which was signed in October 2010and includes options for up to 75 of the radar-evading fighters.

The Pentagon said the Israeli foreign arms sale could be worth up to $15.2 billion if all options are exercised, when it first approved the sale in September 2008.

“This agreement kicks off the Israeli program,” one of the sources told Reuters. “Now all of the agreements are in place.”

The F-35 will allow for even greater collaboration in the coming years with Israel, a critical strategic ally for the United States at a time when much of the Middle East is in turmoil.

The deal comes as Defense Secretary Leon Panetta prepares to visit Israel next week where he will discuss heightened tensions with Iran.

Reuters noted that the deal also provides a vote of confidence in the embattled F-35 program, whose cost and technology challenges have overshadowed a year of progress in flight testing.

The deal will allow increased participation in the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program by Israeli companies, including Elbit Systems Ltd. and the Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), which will start building wings for the radar-evading warplane.
IAI already builds wings for the F-16 fighter jet, the world's most widely used fighter, also built by Lockheed. Elbit, in a joint venture with Rockwell Collins, makes the advanced helmet used by pilots on the single-seat F-35.

Agreement on development of the new Israeli version of the F-35 will allow Israel to install its own radio and datalink systems, as well as other equipment, on the jets it is buying.

The deal also covers enhancements to the airplane's electronic warfare capabilities that will benefit the United States, Israel and the other nine countries that either have already ordered fighter planes, or plan to in coming years.
The radar-evading, multirole F-35 is the Pentagon's costliest arms purchase, expected to top $396 billion for 2,443 aircraft in three models through the mid-2030s.

Lockheed and its subcontractors are building the stealthy warplane for the U.S. Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps along with Britain and seven other co-development partners: Italy, Turkey, Canada, Australia, Denmark, Norway and the Netherlands.

In addition to Israel, Japan also has a signed agreement to buy the F-35, which was designed to replace a range of fighter, strike and ground-attack aircraft, including the F-16.

"There’s not enough smart people in information security" ~ DHS

NOT ENOUGH SECURITY PERSONNEL?  GET ON IT!  WE NEED CYBER SECURITY NOW!
HERE IS AN ARTICLE FROM THE http://www.infosecurity-magazine.com .   I DISAGREE WITH THE TITLE.  I THINK THAT THEY ARE NOT ACTIVELY ON THE INTERNET FINDING THE SMART, SAVVY AND CREATIVELY CYBER TRICKY PEOPLE...I, FOR ONE, BEING 2 MINUTES AWAY FROM THE NEW NSA FACILITY, WOULD LOVE TO WORK IN CYBER SECURITY:)

Black Hat 2012: There’s not enough smart people in information security, says DHS

26 July 2012

Mark Weatherford, Deputy under Secretary for Cybersecurity for the National Protection and Programs Directorate (NPPD), called on the industry to work together to promote information security as a ‘cool’ discipline as he argued there is currently not enough talent in the industry. “We have a problem. There are not enough smart people in the public or private sector to help us defend our country”.

At Black Hat 2012 in Vegas, July 26 2012, Weatherford who advised he was representing Department of Homeland Security, argued that despite the perception that the government is “clueless in the cyber arena, it’s certainly not true”. He argued that the government is technologically advanced, and has a lot of smart people. They talent pipeline, however, is “drying up”, he said and asked the audience to raise their hands if they had all the talent they needed currently in their organization. Nobody raised their hand.
“Historically, the government have not been known for innovation and thinking outside the box”, admitted Weatherford. “But technology has changed that and we are hiring people from the private sector to bring in new ways of thinking.”
Weatherford called on the industry to go into schools and “educate children that this is a good career choice and they can make a decent living from it”. The government and industry need to work together “to make cybersecurity cool and identify and cultivate new talented professionals to work in this industry”.
Defending the critical infrastructure, of which approximately 85% is privately owned and operated, “requires innovation, bold thinking, and a collaborative effort”, continued Weatherford. “Partnerships and information sharing are essential.” To further that call to action, Weatherford declared his ambition that DHS become the key organization that private sector looks to for support in protecting critical infrastructure.”
Weatherford also has ambitions to make DHS a career stop on every information security professional’s career path. “We have cool work, cool tools, and a cool mission: to protect the nation”, he said, adding that they are looking to recruit new talent.
DHS have three major cyber responsibilities, Weatherford advised. “To secure the dot gov environment, help the private sector defend critical infrastructure, and lead and coordinate the response to all major cyber incidents.”

Restrictions on Intelligence Employees Who Talk to Media

Senate Proposal for Curbing ‘Leaks’ Escalates Restrictions on Intelligence Employees Who Talk to Media
By:Kevin Gosztola Wednesday July 25, 2012 3:56 pm

NSA whistleblower Thomas Drake might face increased freedom of speech restrictions under Senate proposals to curb "leaks."

The Senate Intelligence Committee passed an intelligence authorization bill yesterday. The legislation, according to committee chairwoman Senator Dianne Feinstein, would fund measures to “counter terrorist threats, prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, enhance counterintelligence, conduct covert actions and collect and analyze intelligence around the globe.” All of which is expected from the committee serving under the national security state of America. In addition to all that, however, are proposals specifically aimed at “preventing unauthorized disclosures of classified information.”

The proposals come as a response to “leaks” on cyber warfare against Iran, Obama’s “kill list” and a CIA underwear bomb plot sting operation in Yemen. They are the result of a bipartisan offensive against “leaks” that Sen. Feinstein has said comes from the White House.

One of the proposals is a restriction on the “number of intelligence community employees authorized to communicate with the media” and a “prohibition on current and former intelligence officials entering into certain contracts with media organizations.” What this would mean exactly is not defined in the talking points put forward by Feinstein.

Would the “number of intelligence community employees” be limited by establishing guidelines that prohibited lower level employees from talking with news organizations? Would it cut back on the number of individuals, who could speak in an official capacity about intelligence operations?

What exactly does the intelligence committee mean by “contract”? Is getting an intelligence official’s approval to put comments on the record a “contract”? Then there’s the part about this applying to “former intelligence officials” as well as “current” officials. Would this put limits on what people like NSA whistleblower Thomas Drake would be able to say publicly because they might share information that would reveal details on matters “sensitive” to national security?

[Drake was one of six individuals President Barack Obama's administration has prosecuted under the Espionage Act. The Justice Department's case collapsed in June 2011 and the government was forced to settle for a deal where Drake pled guilty to a misdemeanor but served no jail time.]

This is not far-fetched. Drake attended a Cato Institute event today on “The FISA Amendments Act (FAA) and Mass Spying Without Accountability.” Senator Ron Wyden, who has been bold in his opposition to how the government is abusing the spying powers granted to it by FAA, was asked a question by Drake. Drake wanted to know if it was possible to provide collective security and not go to the dark side and violate Americans civil liberties. He mentioned that he was the executive manager of ThinThread, a program that would have made it possible for the government to respect the Constitution while at the same time protecting liberty.

Wyden gave Drake an incredibly timid response saying he could not respond or go into specific details about any technology being used by the government. He, instead, generally declared that he believed protecting the country in a dangerous time and protecting people’s civil liberties is not “mutually exclusive.”

How might Wyden answer this question if the Senate intelligence committee’s proposals were passed by Congress? And would Drake be putting himself in a position where government could punish him for asking questions or making comments at public events if these proposals were signed into law? Feinstein told CNN‘s Wolf Blitzer when she first was expressing outrage at the “leaks,” ”[It's a] problem that we have people consulting. They live their life with classified information. They then get a consultancy with your show or your station or some other station and they’re talking, inadvertently, I think, about information that should not be talked about.” Given this earlier statement from Feinstein, it seems reasonable to presume the measure is intended to silence former intelligence employees.

In addition to these provisions that explicitly mention the media, the Senate proposals would require the executive branch to notify Congress when it made “authorized disclosures of intelligence information to the public.” Why would this be necessary? It might be one way to ensure that Congress be fully briefed on specific matters before disclosures occur. Quite often it seems Congress members are blindsided by administrations that do not fill in people on what they are doing on national security until a news story is about to be released that will generate interest in a national security matter and put these officials in a position where they have to answer questions.

The new measures call for the “Director of National Intelligence (DNI) to improve the process for conducting administrative leaks investigations, including a requirement to proactively identify leaks and take administrative action when necessary.” The DNI has already proactively moved to institute anti-leaks measures. Intelligence employees will now be required to answer a question on whether they have leaked “restricted information” to journalists or the news media when they take a polygraph test that all employees have to take every seven years. They will also be subjected to an environment that further chills freedom of speech, as they could be issued “letters of reprimand” if they are “suspected” of being involved in a “leak.”
