Global Apocalypse 2016?

I know I'm not the only one out there who is feeling an energy rising that is going to lead to the apocalypse.  It's a feeling that keeps stabbing at me, telling me that we are being lead down a path of no return.  It's a feeling that runs through my brain and body day and night. I know there are a lot of you out there who are feeling the same thing and who are not even telling their closest friends and family.

My feelings are that no matter which way the election tilts, violence will ensue and that will give the powers that be excuse to buckled don't their control and hence taking away much of our freedom.

The peaceful freedoms enjoyed by American citizens are on the brink of destruction.  We think we enjoy these freedoms but we are manipulated by media. The media are owned by the powers that are pulling the puppet strings. What is real and what is just the reality that we are being lead to believe.

Example # 1: "the latest craze in Moscow -- is to find the nuclear launch codes and deactivate a hidden red button, which has already been pressed by a mad Russian general." - CNN

The above is from CNN. Is this an actual situation or is it fear mongering? I don't know.  Do you? Unless we have an in into the situation, we won't ever know the truth. Can we actually believe any of the leaders that have told us anything about this situation?

The drill that Russia performed, the nuclear drill, that the media emphasized was preparing for an imminent disaster...was it really preparing for an imminent nuclear situation?

Because of Russia's human rights abuses in Syria, it has been kicked off the U.N. Human Rights Council. At this point, I don't think that they care.

While I don't doubt that Russia is bound to instigate the nuclear cascade, I also wouldn't be surprised by other players, namely North Korea, Iran or China.  All of these have been colluding in recent years against the United States.


The war on faith is being felt on a global scale. Is that being publicized through the media?  No. Instead, what gets publicized is the instances where the agenda of the puppet masters is interrupted, showing what might happen to you if you don't comply. The fear mongering. The hate. The violence.

War on family has been executed since the dawn of man, but as of late, new demons have been mixing with old to push the agenda deeper, quicker. The process of pushing out family values and the family unit has been pushed by the agenda of the puppet masters through groups who have been posing as those who care about LGBT rights.  As we all know, the puppet masters don't actually care except that these groups help move their agenda forward, The victims of those people who get in the mix don't actually matter to these puppet masters.  Hence this...

With the willingness to incite violence if either party wins the election, people are being drawn out and influenced to amp up the talk into action. 

Even with all of these things going on around us, we still have the choice to act well.  We have the choice to be good to each other.  We still have the choice to believe that the human race can change its course.

Encourage your neighbors to join you in preparedness. Prepare supplies of food and water that you can regularly rotate but would help sustain you and your family for days, weeks, months at a time if there were an emergency.

OBAMA RUNS FROM LEADERSHIP ON ANOTHER TRIP & DEMANDS RUSSIA TURN OVER SNOWDEN

Is Obama really naive enough to believe that Russian leaders would just pick up the phone and arrange for extradition of Snowden?

While Obama is on a vacation...oops...I mean, a diplomatic trip to Africa, he is spending millions...I mean A LOT OF BUCKAROONIES!  Not only that, but he is escaping from the scandals that are going on right under our noses, in the United States.

One of these scandals is Edward Snowden's leaking of information (that is supposed to be top secret) from the NSA.  Obama is trying to make Snowden's leaks are no big deal and that Russia should just pick up the phone and arrange extradition, as if Russia is actually a "friend" of the United States.  For those keeping up with the current affairs around the globe, we all know that Russia has been supplying our "enemies" with nuclear arms and is on the side of our "enemies", without nice things to say about the United States.  However, Obama seems to think that he is so powerful that Russia should just bow and provide.

Obama has other issues going on, but through traveling and "campaigning" for his causes, he is avoiding the leadership part in his role as the President of the United States of America.  He is attempting to let things cool off and is attempting to have his cronies take care of attacking whistleblowers, helping him avoid the other scandals, and creating diversions from the attention on these matters.

Meanwhile, there are sites, including Facebook, where there are now "fans" gathering of Edward Snowden.  The longer that Snowden is on the run, the more infamous he is becoming.



As you can see from the video displayed above, the President is avoiding answering questions regarding Snowden.  What a leader!  He sure knows how to make a country great!  NOT!!!  His job is not being done by him.  It's disgusting!

US officials have charged NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden with espionage. They told the Washington Post that federal prosecutors filed a sealed criminal complaint against the now 30-year-old who handed over a series of government documents to the media revealing secret NSA surveillance programs. He has also been charged with theft and conversion of government property. RT's Political Commentator Sam Sacks and Abby Martin, Host of Breaking the Set have had their say on what these charges mean for Snowden.

Are we just supposed to trust Obama?  Snowden is being charged under the Espionage Act.  This is the 5th whistleblower who is being charged under the Espionage Act.  What about whistleblower protection?  People should know what protection they have, and people who work in top security agencies, who have taken an oath of secrecy, should not be revealing things while under these oaths/promises that they have signed.

There is no extradition treaty with Russia.  Obama says that there have been "useful conversations with Russia".  What does this mean?  He has no idea that the Russians think that the United States is wrecking the world on purpose.  They especially hate Obama and his administration.  Yes...HATE.




Here is more on what Russia really thinks about the United States.  If Obama starts being a leader, maybe he can start to change things around so that scandals are taken care of in the proper manner and relationships with countries are mended.  However, he seems to feel that being away from the country or "campaigning" is more important.  That is called running away from leadership and taking ownership of the issues you are supposed to be owning.

72 Fusion Centers are an intricate nationwide web of shared data
collection, and set in place to snoop into our cellphones and e-mails

all had the right to feel secure in our own person or homes, however,
having a Fusion Center in Sacramento isn’t exactly making me feel all

then, what do we have? We’ve got a lot more than just your friendly
neighborhood watch group looking after you, and for those of you who
didn’t know, there is a mega Data Center being built in Bluffdale, Utah
which is a, not so secret, NSA project, and it can house all of the

code named the “BUMBLEHIVE.” As for the amount of information that can
be stored, it will have an astounding storage capacity of

(1 quintillion instructions per second) by 2018. Naturally, NSA denies
that they have any interest in “tracking” every citizen even though
they do have the capability of eaves dropping on every American.
Let’s reverse gears. Does anyone remember 9/11 when President Bush
said they were “only” eaves dropping on international calls, while all
along, warrantless domestic calls were in the mix? At that time the CEO
of Quest Communications said that he would not comply with warrantless
wiretaps. Presently, he is in prison for “insider trading.” Shall we
connect the dots? He is presumably the wealthiest person behind bars
in America. Here’s a footnote; The U.S. Government stopped doing
business with Quest after they refused to do warrantless wiretaps.

As for the ongoing surveillance that is happening today, in their

which is for the “protection” of the nation.

Bumblehive

Bumblehive is the alleged code name for the NSA’s new multi-billion dollar spy center in Utah although the official name appears to be Stellar Wind. . It is the mother of all data collection. Bumblehive most likely is a spin off from this word. Who says the feds don’t have a sense of humor? Today is the reported day of some kind of ribbon cutting ceremony. Since there’s little info to be found on the ceremony, it must be assumed it’s a secret one and not many will get close enough to spy on the spies.

I’ve been trying to put myself in the shoes of the NSA to figure out what’s going on. If I had to hire contractors to do the most sensitive, most secretive jobs in the inner workings of the facility, who would I get? Well, that’s a no brainer. Of course it would be some shady companies with ties to Israel with a history of corruption and staffed with mostly unstable individuals. Backdoor men hanging the backdoor that leads straight to Tel Aviv. Why should we expect otherwise?

What we know about the NSA's secret data warehouse in Utah

The nation's new billion-dollar epicenter for fighting global cyberthreats sits just south of Salt Lake City, tucked away on a National Guard base at the foot of snow-capped mountains. The long, squat buildings span 1.5 million square feet, and are filled with super-powered computers designed to store massive amounts of information gathered secretly from phone calls and emails.

Two small, weathered signs in the sagebrush greet interlopers to this place with a stark warning: "Military reservation. No trespassing." But there is no visible marker bearing the facility's name and operator: The Utah Data Center, brought to you courtesy of the National Security Agency.

When it opens this fall, the facility will be the NSA's largest data storage center in the U.S. Just don't ask Utah officials, and certainly not the residents of tiny Bluffdale, just north of the new center, to tell you exactly what will go on inside. They either don't know, or aren't saying. And the NSA is famously tight-lipped.

"We know it's a spy center. But who are they spying on?" said Connie Robbins, an upholstery shop owner who lives in Bluffdale, a community of 8,000 some 25 miles south of Salt Lake City that is known for its rodeo and annual Old West Days.

The dearth of information has perpetuated a mystery that has spawned dozens of theories and a spoof website that even includes a phony code name for the facility: "Bumblehive," a play on Utah's nickname of the "Beehive State."

Last week's revelation that the NSA is collecting millions of U.S. phone records along with digital communications stored by nine major Internet providers illustrates how aggressively personal information is being congregated and analyzed -- and shines a brighter light on what will be going on in secret at the Utah facility, scheduled to open in October.

NSA officials say the center will play a key role in the nation's effort to protect national security networks, and allow U.S. authorities to monitor for potential cyberthreats. In an email, agency spokeswoman Vanee Vines said that "many unfounded allegations have been made about the planned activities" of the center.

"NSA would like to confirm, on the record, that the Utah Data Center is a state-of-the-art data facility designed to support the U.S. intelligence community's efforts to further strengthen and protect the nation. Its operations will be lawfully conducted in accordance with U.S. laws and policies," Vines wrote.

She provided no additional details, however.

'It's just a big file cabinet out in the Western area.'

Inundated with increasing volumes of secretly taped phone calls, intercepted emails and poached records of online purchases, the NSA needed a mega-warehouse to put it all, he said.

"It's just a big file cabinet out in the Western area," said George, once a senior technical leader at the agency. "There is no spying going on there."

NSA agents elsewhere will comb through the data stored in Utah as the agency attempts to understand how terrorist groups operate and who plays what roles, George said. Emails, articles, websites and videos on the Internet may hold clues about such activities, he said.

Utah Data Center

Background

The Utah Data Center, code-named Bumblehive, is the first Intelligence Community Comprehensive National Cyber-security Initiative (IC CNCI) data center designed to support the Intelligence Community's efforts to monitor, strengthen and protect the nation. NSA is the executive agent for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) and will be the lead agency at the center.

The steady rise in available computer power and the development of novel computer platforms will enable us to easily turn the huge volume of incoming data into an asset to be exploited, for the good of the nation.



The Utah Data Center is currently under construction and is expected to open in October 2013. Our 1.5 billion-dollar one million square-foot Bluffdale / Camp Williams facility will house a 100,000 sq-ft mission critical data center. The remaining 900,000 SF will be used for technical support and administrative space. Other supporting facilities include water treatment facilities, chiller plant, power substations, vehicle inspection facility, visitor control center, and sixty diesel-fueled emergency standby generators and fuel facility for a 3-day 100% power backup capability.

Data Storage Capacity

The storage capacity of the Utah Data Center will be measured in "zettabytes". What exactly is a zettabyte? There are a thousand gigabytes in a terabyte; a thousand terabytes in a petabyte; a thousand petabytes in an exabyte; and a thousand exabytes in a zettabyte. Some of our employees like to refer to them as "alottabytes".

Code-Breaking Supercomputer Platform

In October 2012, the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Oak Ridge National Laboratory launched the Titan Supercomputer, which is capable of churning through more than 20,000 trillion calculations each second or 20 petaflops. (1 petaflop = 1 quadrillion instructions per second).

Our Target: 256-bit AES

The Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) algorithm is used worldwide to encrypt electronic data on hard drives, email systems, and web browsers. The AES 256-bit encryption key is the standard for top-secret US government communications. Computer experts have estimated it would take longer than the age of the universe to break the code using a trial-and-error brute force attack with today's computing technology.

In 2004, the NSA launched a plan to use the Multiprogram Research Facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee to build a classified supercomputer designed specifically for cryptanalysis targeting the AES algorithm. Recently, our classified NSA Oak Ridge facility made a stunning breakthrough that is leading us on a path towards building the first exaflop machine (1 quintillion instructions per second) by 2018. This will give us the capability to break the AES encryption key within an actionable time period and allow us to read and process stored encrypted domestic data as well as foreign diplomatic and military communications.


Visitor Control Center

Construction Status

We're using a Critical Path Method (CPM) schedule to track the cost and resource data for over 26,000 activities. The project initially required over a million cubic yards of earthwork and nearly seven miles of new roadways. The massive twenty-building complex is being completed in three phases. The first phase was completed last Fall and includes the first of four data halls (Data Center Module DCM 1); the Administration Building; Data Center Loading and Storage; Chiller Plant #1 and storage tanks; Generator Plant #1 with fuel system storage; Visitor Control Center; Vehicle Cargo Inspection Facility; kennel; perimeter warehouse; and fire pump building.

The second phase, completed early in 2013 includes the second data hall (DCM 2) along with Generator Plant #2 with fuel system storage.



The final phase is scheduled to be completed by October 2013 and includes the remaining two data halls (DCM 3 and 4); Generator Plants 3 and 4 with fuel system storage; and Chiller Plant #2 and storage tanks. Because of the national security implications of an on-time opening of this critical facility, the NSA has already begun the installation of classified equipment in the first two data halls (DCM 1 and 2).

Global Privacy Has Been Made Obsolete – Bumblehive

A massive new NSA data centre in Utah will begin collecting electronic information from citizens all around the world, regardless of the country they reside in.

The facility, code name “Bumblehive”, is 1.5-million-square-ft,  has cost almost $2-billion and  can store 1 trillion terabytes of information, creating the largest spy centre known to man.

The NSA plans to collect electronic information, everything from emails to cellphone records and even purchasing receipts from all over the world. They will store the information to identify threatening patterns, they claim.

So far, not one single country has moved to litigate against this level of domestic surveillance.

The data centre is able to capture all forms of communication, including the complete contents of private emails, cell phone calls and Internet searches, as well as all sorts of personal data trails—parking receipts, travel itineraries, bookstore purchases, and other digital “pocket litter”, though its precise purpose is secret.

Bumblehive will also use satellites, tap into undersea cables and pick up microwave links.

In essence, like a cloud, a digital cloud, so that agency employees, analysts from around the country at NSA headquarters and their listening posts in different parts of the U.S.—in Georgia, Texas, Hawaii and Colorado—can all access that information held in Bluffdale in that data center.  And that’s pretty much a summary of what that data center is all about.

The NSA is much different from the CIA. First of all, it’s about three times the size. It costs far more.  It’s tremendously more secret than the CIA. And what it does is very different. It’s focused on eavesdropping, on tapping into major communications links, on listening to what people around the world and, to some degree, in the United States say on telephones, email, communications . . . And NSA is really the most powerful intelligence agency, not only in the U.S., but in the world today.

Krauthammer On Syria: "What's At Stake Here Is Whether Anything This President Now Says Is Believable"

CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER: Well, I think what’s really important here is that what’s at stake is not the trajectory of the Syrian war. There’s something else at stake here, and that’s America’s word. 

Whatever Obama does, I don’t think he’ll do anything. He’ll try to minimize this. He’ll try to caveat himself out of this. But even if he does act, it’ll be a minor act. It’s not going to have any effect on what happens in Syria.

What’s at stake here is whether anything that this president now says is believable around the world. When you say 'red line' and you make the red line way out there -- it’s not the slaughter of 80,000 of your own people; it’s the use of chemical weapons -- and then you get definitive evidence that it has been used and you don’t do anything, then your word means nothing. 

And the one thing America’s had for the last 60 years is the power and the belief in the world that when it says 'x,' it will do 'x.' And I think that’s really what the problem is here. White House: We don’t know if Syria red line has been crossed

Despite a new U.S. intelligence community assessment that the Syrian regime likely used chemical weapons on its own people, the White House is still waiting for more evidence before deciding whether Bashar al-Assad has crossed President Barack Obama's "red line."

The White House scrambled Thursday to set up a conference call with reporters following Thursday morning's news that the U.S. intelligence community has concluded with varying levels of confidence that there has been small-scale use of sarin, a deadly nerve gas, inside Syria, most likely by the Syrian regime. Secretary of State John Kerry told lawmakers Thursday that the assessment referenced two instances of chemical weapons use in Syria.

A senior White House official said on the conference call that the intelligence community's assessment was not enough to determine that President Obama's red line regarding U.S. intervention in Syria has been crossed.

"We are continuing to do further work to establish a strong, firm, evidentiary basis to determine whether or not the red line has been crossed," the official said. "If we make a determination that the red line has been crossed... what we will be doing is consulting with friends and allies as to the next steps forward."

The official indirectly referenced the flawed intelligence assessments about Saddam Hussein's programs of weapons of mass destruction in the lead up to the Iraq war as justification for caution.

"It is crucial, given our own history with intelligence assessments, including intelligence assessments on weapons of mass destruction... that we are able to present evidence that is airtight," the official said. "It is absolutely the case that the president's red line is the use of chemical weapons or the transfer of chemical weapons to terrorist groups. Our standard of evidence has to build on these intelligence assessments. We want to continue to investigate."

The Obama administration is keeping all options on the table, but the official declined to say what options might be considered if and when it is confirmed that the president's red line has been crossed. The official also declined to identify the locations or dates of the two alleged uses of chemical weapons in Syria, but acknowledged that a March incident in Aleppo had spurred the United States to press for a fuller investigation.

"We will constantly have prepared contingency planning for different scenarios within Syria," the official said. "What the Assad regime needs to know is that we are watching this incredibly closely."

The White House's conclusion that not enough evidence exists to confirm that the Syrian regime has crossed Obama's red line was contradicted Thursday by Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein(D-CA), the chairwoman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.

 "It is clear that ‘red lines' have been crossed and action must be taken to prevent larger scale use," she said in a statement. "Syria has the ability to kill tens of thousands with its chemical weapons. The world must come together to prevent this by unified action which results in the secure containment of Syria's significant stockpile of chemical weapons."

The original announcement about the new intelligence community assessment on Syrian chemical weapons came in statements Thursday from Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel and in a letter from the White House to several senators delivered Thursday morning during an otherwise classified briefing.

"Our intelligence community does asses with varying degrees of confidence that the Syrian regime has used chemical weapons on a small scale in Syria, specifically the chemical agent Sarin,"Miguel Rodriguez, the director of the White House office of legislative affairs, wrote in the letter.

First...let me state that we knew that the stockpiling of weapons, including chemical weapons was known through HUMINT (human intelligence) and other sources of intelligence by global national communities.  As we know, much of this has been helped along by Russia and Iran.  The blame is on the global nations, including the U.S. the have known about this and have not done anything to stop it.  

President Obama said in August that 

"I want to make it absolutely clear to Assad and those under his command -- the world is watching" "The use of chemical weapons is and would be totally unacceptable. And if you make the tragic mistake of using these weapons, there will be consequences and you will be held accountable," he said.Obama has previously warned that any use of chemical weapons by Syria in its civil war would be crossing a "red line" that would prompt a swift U.S. response. source: here

Intell on Syria's chemical weapons sparked international action to stop 'bomb preparation'

Sanger, New York Times:  In the last days of November, Israel’s top military commanders called the Pentagon to discuss troubling intelligence that was showing up on satellite imagery: Syrian troops appeared to be mixing chemicals at two storage sites, probably the deadly nerve gas sarin, and filling dozens of 500-pounds bombs that could be loaded on airplanes.

Within hours President Obama was notified, and the alarm grew over the weekend, as the munitions were loaded onto vehicles near Syrian air bases. In briefings, administration officials were told that if Syria’s increasingly desperate president, Bashar al-Assad, ordered the weapons to be used, they could be airborne in less than two hours — too fast for the United States to act, in all likelihood.

What followed next, officials said, was a remarkable show of international cooperation over a civil war in which the United States, Arab states, Russia and China have almost never agreed on a common course of action.

The combination of a public warning by Mr. Obama and more sharply worded private messages sent to the Syrian leader and his military commanders through Russia and others, including Iraq, Turkey and possibly Jordan, stopped the chemical mixing and the bomb preparation. A week later Defense Secretary Leon E. Panetta said the worst fears were over — for the time being. . . .

“I think the Russians understood this is the one thing that could get us to intervene in the war,” one senior defense official said last week. “What Assad understood, and whether that understanding changes if he gets cornered in the next few months, that’s anyone’s guess. . . .”

The head of Germany’s foreign intelligence service, the BND, warned in a confidential assessment last month that the weapons could now be deployed four to six hours after orders were issued, and that Mr. Assad had a special adviser at his side who oversaw control of the weapons, the German newsmagazine Der Spiegel reported. Some American and other allied officials, however, said in interviews that the sarin-laden bombs could be loaded on planes and airborne in less than two hours. . . .

How the United States and Israel, along with Arab states, would respond remains a mystery. American and allied officials have talked vaguely of having developed “contingency plans” in case they decided to intervene in an effort to neutralize the chemical weapons, a task that the Pentagon estimates would require upward of 75,000 troops. But there have been no evident signs of preparations for any such effort.

The United States military has quietly sent a task force of more than 150 planners and other specialists to Jordan to help the armed forces there, among other things, prepare for the possibility that Syria will lose control of its chemical weapons. . . .

Syria’s chemical weapons are under the control of a secretive Syrian air force organization called Unit 450, a highly vetted outfit that is deemed one of the most loyal to the Assad government given the importance of the weapons in its custody.

American officials said that some of the back-channel messages in recent weeks were directed at the commanders of this unit, warning them — as Mr. Obama warned Mr. Assad on Dec. 3 — that they would be held personally responsible if the government used its chemical weapons.

Asked about these communications and whether they have been successful, an American intelligence official said only, “The topic is extremely sensitive, and public discussion, even on background, will be problematic.”   (graphic: Best Thinking)

UK says Syria chemical weapons use would need "serious response"

(Reuters) - Britain said on Tuesday it was aware of media reports about a chemical weapons attack in Syria, adding that the use or proliferation of chemical weapons there would demand a serious response from the international community.

"The UK is clear that the use or proliferation of chemical weapons would demand a serious response from the international community and force us to revisit our approach so far," a Foreign Office spokeswoman said.

Despite the Confirmation of Biological Weapons, the International Community Still Can’t Do Anything 

Though Syria’s arsenal of chemical weapons has been an open secret for the past 4 decades, the Assad’s regime’s announcement is a direct confirmation that Syria does indeed have a chemical weapons arsenal at their disposal.  The announcement targeted the international community, stating that if any foreign intervention in Syria’s civil war would be met with the deployment of chemical weapons.  The weapons include mustard and sarin gases, as well as cyanide, and are capable of being deployed by aircraft, surface-to-air missiles and rockets.  The announcement has sparked renewed animosity towards the regime, as well as towards the eastern powers that still persist in supporting the Assad regime, such as Russia and China.  Though the announcement does spark another international dilemma to be confronted if the community were to begin renewed intervention-talks, it does not present any new looming threat for the opposition groups still fighting throughout the Syrian country. 

'Suffocating in the streets': Chemical weapons attack reported in Syria

Syria's government and rebels accused each other of launching a deadly chemical attack near the northern city of Aleppo on Tuesday in what would, if confirmed, be the first use of such weapons in the two-year-old conflict. 

Syria's state news agency SANA said the rebels had launched a missile, while the rebels said the government had fired a long-range missile with "chemical agents."

"Terrorists fired a rocket containing chemical substances in the Khan al-Assal area of rural Aleppo," SANA said.

A Reuters photographer visited two hospitals and saw people with breathing problems, who told him that they saw people dying in the streets and that the air smelled strongly of chlorine.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a human rights monitoring group with a network of sources on the ground, said 26 people were killed in a "rocket attack" but it could neither confirm nor deny reports of chemical weapons.

U.S. President Barack Obama, who has resisted overt military intervention in Syria's civil war, has previously warned Syria's President Bashar Assad that any use of chemical weapons would be a "red line".

Syria's Information Minister Omran al-Zoabi put the death toll at 16 and said 86 people were wounded, most of them critically.

In a televised news conference, he said the country's armed forces would never use internationally banned weapons. "Syria's army leadership has stressed this before and we say it again, if we had chemical weapons we would never use them due to moral, humanitarian and political reasons," Zoabi said.

Damascus, rebels trade charges on "chemical attack"

BEIRUT - Syria's government and rebels accused each other of launching a deadly chemical attack near the northern city of Aleppo on Tuesday in what would, if confirmed, be the first use of such weapons in the two-year-old conflict.

Syria's information minister said rebels had fired a rocket carrying chemical agents that killed 16 people and wounded 86. State television said later the death toll had risen to 25.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which monitors the conflict using a network of contacts in Syria, put the number of dead at 26, including 16 soldiers.

A Reuters photographer said victims he had visited in Aleppo hospitals were suffering breathing problems and that people had said they could smell chlorine after the attack.

"I saw mostly women and children," said the photographer, who cannot be named for his own safety.

"They said that people were suffocating in the streets and the air smelt strongly of chlorine."

The photographer quoted victims he met at the University of Aleppo hospital and the al-Rajaa hospital as saying: "People were dying in the streets and in their houses."

President Bashar al-Assad, battling a two-year-old uprising against his rule, is widely believed to have a chemical arsenal.

Syrian officials have neither confirmed nor denied this, but have said that if it existed it would be used to defend against foreign aggression, not against Syrians. There have been no previous reports of chemical weapons in the hands of insurgents.

Information Minister Omran al-Zoabi said rebels fired a rocket with chemical weapons at the town of Khan al-Assal, southwest of Aleppo, in what he called a "dangerous escalation".

He said the rocket had been launched from Aleppo's southeastern district of Nairab, part of which is rebel-held.
