Mayan Friday, December 21, 2012...Is It The End? What Do You Think?

Mysticism, Internet fuel Maya 'Armageddon' fears

Mass hysteria in a Russian prison, a Chinese man building survival pods for doomsday and UFO lovers seeking refuge with aliens in a French mountain village are just some of the reports that have sprung up in the final countdown to December 21.

CHICHEN ITZA, Mexico – A few words by an American scholar, a crumbling Mexican monument and the love of a good yarn were all it took to spawn the belief that the world could end on Friday.
December 21 marks the end of an age in a 5,125 year-old Mayan calendar, an event that is variously interpreted as the end of days, the start of a new era or just a good excuse for a party.
Thousands of New Age mystics, spiritual adventurers and canny businessmen are converging on ancient ruins in southern Mexico and Guatemala to find out what will happen.
"No one knows what it will look like on the other side," said Michael DiMartino, 46, a long-haired American who is organizing one of the biggest December 21 celebrations at the Maya temple site of Chichen Itza on the Yucatan peninsula.
It is not the world but "the way we perceive it" that will end, said DiMartino, who pledged his event at ground zero for 2012 acolytes will be a "distilling down of various perspectives into a unified intention for positive transformation, evolution and co-creation of a new way of being."
A mash-up of academic speculation and existential angst seasoned with elements from several world religions, the 2012 phenomenon has been fueled by Hollywood movies and computer games, and relentlessly disseminated by Internet doom-mongers.
Mass hysteria in a Russian prison, a Chinese man building survival pods for doomsday and UFO lovers seeking refuge with aliens in a French mountain village are just some of the reports that have sprung up in the final countdown to December 21.
Robert Bast, a New Zealander living in Melbourne who wrote a book called "Survive 2012" on how to cope with the possible catastrophe, believes the Maya may have sent out a warning.
"The most likely thing for me is a solar storm, but that's not going to kill you straight away. It's more of a long term disaster," said Bast, 47, noting a flu pandemic could also strike the planet. "I feel the world isn't as safe as we think it is. The last couple of generations have had it very cozy."
When dawn breaks on Friday, according to the Maya Long Count calendar, it marks the end of the 13th bak'tun – an epoch lasting some 400 years – and the beginning of the 14th.
This fact would probably have languished in academic obscurity had not a young Maya expert named Michael Coe written in the 1960s that to the ancient Mesoamerican culture the date could herald an "Armageddon" to cleanse humanity.
Since then, the cult of 2012 has snowballed.
Among the sun-bleached pyramids, shaded mangroves and deep cenotes of the Maya heartland, there are hopes December 21 will bring a spiritual re-birth.
Nobody seems quite sure what to expect on Friday, but this has not stopped people getting their hopes up.
"This is the Arab Spring of the spiritual movement," said Geoffrey Ocean Dreyer, a 52-year-old U.S. musician wearing a sombrero and Mardi Gras beads. "We're going to create world peace. We're going to Jerusalem and we're going to rebuild Solomon's temple."
ANXIETY ATTACKS
The words of Coe, a highly respected Maya scholar, were published in 1966 at the height of the Cold War, stirring fears in a world haunted by the prospect of nuclear holocaust.
Coe could not be reached for comment for this article, but friends and academics who know him insist he never meant to inspire a vision of apocalypse when he committed them to paper.
Stephen Houston, a Maya expert at Brown University in Rhode Island and student of Coe's, said too much has been read into the end of the 13th bak'tun, which was little more than a "dull mathematical declaration" used to bracket dates.
"I see it all as an expression of present day anxiety and not much more than that," Houston said.
Few remaining inscriptions refer to the event, and the best known one is part of a monument recovered from a Maya site in Tabasco state called Tortuguero – much of which was torn down in the 1960s to make way for the construction of a cement factory.
Still, the mix of religion, ancient inscriptions and media-driven speculation about impending doom remains potent.
"I got an email the other day from a mother who was contemplating taking her own life, because she didn't know what was really going to happen, she didn't want her children to live through this ordeal," said David Stuart, a Maya expert at the University of Texas. "We can dismiss it as a kooky idea, which it is, but they're still ideas and they still have power."
U.S. space agency NASA has sought to allay fears of impending catastrophe, noting that "our planet has been getting along just fine for more than 4 billion years, and credible scientists worldwide know of no threat associated with 2012."
Nothing has given the 2012 theories more oxygen in the run-up to the big day than the Internet, noted John Hoopes, a Maya anthropologist at the University of Kansas.
"Computers come straight out of the same people who were smoking pot and protesting at Berkeley and Stanford," he said, referring to U.S. student movements in the 1960s.
"This Maya calendar stuff has been part of hacktivism lore for 40 years, since the beginning, and with every significant change in computer technology, it's gotten another boost."
Many of those gathering in Chichen Itza praised the Internet as a discussion forum and organizing tool for New Age events.
"We don't need leaders now we have the Internet," said Muggy Burton, 66, who had traveled to Mexico from Canada with her 15-year-old, blue-haired granddaughter, Talis Hardy.
The two, who communicate with each other by whistling, plan to live in Mexico for six months, according to Burton, who is going to homeschool Hardy. "It's the end of the world for her, and the beginning of a new one," she added.
MAYA SKEPTICS
Mexico's federal government is not officially marking the phenomenon, but the country's tourism agency has launched a "Mundo Maya 2012" website with a countdown to December 21.
Up to 200,000 people are expected to descend on Chichen Itza alone for the night of December 20.
Among modern descendants of the Maya, the idea it could all come to an end on Friday generally raises a wry smile. But they are happy to play along if it makes money.
"It's a psychic epidemic," said Miguel Coral, 56, a cigar salesman in Merida, a colonial town and capital of Yucatan state. "It's all about business, but that's fine. It helps our country. I think it's excellent we've exported this idea."
Nearby, workers built a pyramid of spray-painted polystyrene blocks for the opening of the town's Maya festival.
"If people who believe in this joke want to come, let them," said Jose May, a Merida tourism official of Maya descent. "Nobody here believes that. Those people were sold an idea."
Hazy rumors have helped feed the sense of anticipation.
A few hours' drive south of Merida in the remote Maya town of Xul, which means "the end," media reports began circulating as early as 2008 that a group of Italians were readying themselves for impending doom by building apocalypse-proof bunkers.
Today, the settlement dubbed the "end of the world resort" is open for business as "Eco Spa Las Aguilas."
"There's no truth in it," said deputy manager Andrea Podesta, 45, referring to speculation it was a cult.
"Some people came here, took some hidden photos, and published some very unpleasant articles about us," he added, noting the glistening new spa was booked up well into 2013.
Inside, a group of elderly Italians, mostly dressed in white, were watching the path of an asteroid on a giant screen. A black-and-white image of Christ's face hung from the wall and a large stone statue of a robed woman greeted visitors.
Whatever lies in store for the planet, even Maya academics who have fought to play down the hype surrounding the passing of another 24 hours feel there could still be some surprises.
"I think there may be some mischief on December 21 because the whole world is watching," said Hoopes in Kansas, citing rumors hacktivist group Anonymous was planning a stunt. "It's a very fertile opportunity for a tremendous prank."

Mayan apocalypse mania grips Russia
Officials try to calm fears as Russians buy up emergency supplies before the Mayan calendar runs out on Friday

The apocalypse is surely near when Ramzan Kadyrov emerges as the voice of reason.
The ruthless leader of Chechnya is among dozens of Russians officials, priests, doctors and psychiatrists aiming to calm an anxious populace frantically preparing for the end of the world later this week.
"People are buying candles saying the end of the world is coming," Kadyrov said in comments published on his official website last week. "Does no one realise that once the end of the world comes, candles won't help them?"
For more than a month, Russians around the country have been buying up candles and matches, salt and torches in an effort to outsmart the apocalypse some believe will come when the Mayan calendar runs out on Friday.

Mayan apocalypse? Doomsday? Asteroid? How the world will end

Maya Doomsday Belize.jpg

Wondering what could cause the Mayan Apocalypse? Just look up at the stars.

For years, conspiracy theorists, numerologists, and armchair prophets have predicted the end of the world will take place on December 21, 2012. They point to several apocalyptic events: a long-period comet hurtling toward Earth, or a massive solar storm that causes complete power grid failure.

And they take the stories seriously. Rob Skelton, who runs Survive2012.com and has studied a possible Mayan doomsday event for 15 years, says there is a reason to be concerned. For the long-period comet, he admits we would normally have spotted one by now -- unless it had gone dark and lost its reflective ice. For the solar storms, he says the Mayans could have found a pattern in low-latitude auroras and predicted a coming disaster.

“Both are only predictable via periods of observation longer than the modern scientific era,” he told FoxNews.com. “All I’ve done is find a reason why it could happen this December.”

According to Skelton, a solar storm could wreak havoc in the U.S., knocking out the power grid for months. The U.S. relies on the grid to keep nuclear power plants safe, run factories, and communicate between fire and police forces. Without this key infrastructure, there will be mass pandemonium and destruction, he said.

But will these events happen on December 21? That’s extremely unlikely, says one NASA scientist.

“This is purely an Internet phenomena,” said David Morrison, an astrobiologist at NASA. Comets that cause destruction on Earth are extremely rare – they could happen once every 500 million years.

........................................................

'There are no objects out there that will impact the Earth.'
- David Morrison, an astrobiologist at NASA
 ..................................................

Mysterious objects have been known to strike planets in the past. In 1994, a series of comets struck Jupiter, the largest planet in our solar system. Most scientists agree that solar storms are relatively common events and can cause electrical disruptions. And comets do tend to be harder to track in our solar system until they pass by the sun. But nothing like that is imminent, Morrison said.

“There are no objects out there that will impact the Earth,” he told FoxNews.com.

As for the massive solar storms, Morrison says they do happen. “The power does go out, and that’s not a nice thing and it means people are not happy. But that doesn’t kill millions.” In most cases, even with a major outage, it can take weeks at most, not month, to regain power, he said.

“Solar storms are relatively common events,” agreed Chris De Pree, a professor at Agnes Scott College and author of The Complete Idiot's Guide to Astronomy. “Other than disrupting communications and putting on a great boreal light show, the long term effects would probably not be great.”

NASA operates the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) to track comets and asteroids, and also runs the Spaceguard Survey, a ten-year project intended to track near-Earth objects in our solar system. There are no hidden secrets, De Pree said: NASA publishes the report online.

About those comets? Morrison says comets are well-known to have dark surfaces. NASA still tracks them, as well as asteroids – which are “dark as a lump of coal.”

Morrison is most skeptical about the Mayan predictions. “There is nothing special about that date,” he said. “The Mayans never predicted anything will happen. There are thousands of people who run Web sites and make YouTube videos about catastrophes who are not scientists.”

He says the Mayan calendar works a bit like our own calendar: When you reach the end, you flip over a page and start a new calendar. What will the doomsday predictors turn to next? That’s hard to say, but history has shown that there will be yet another catastrophic event to worry about.

“Claims about the end of the world are a time-honored way to sell things,” De Pree said.

China Arrests 500 Over Mayan Apocalypse Rumors

DOOMSDAY SCENARIO CITED AS MOTIVE FOR SCHOOL STABBING SUSPECT

By Kevin Spak,  Newser Staff

Posted Dec 17, 2012 9:21 AM CST

(NEWSER) – In the US, we mostly laugh off the Mayan-predicted apocalypse that will probably eradicate us all in a few days. But in China, it's serious business. Authorities there have now arrested more than 500 members of the banned Christian "Almighty God" cult for allegedly spreading doomsday prophesies, the AP reports. Police also seized leaflets, DVDs, books, and other materials warning of the impending apocalypse. The cult believes that the "sun will not shine and electricity will not work for three days beginning on December 21," the state-runXinhua news service reported.
Then again, perhaps China has good reason to try to clamp down on the rumors; according to another report, such prophesies were a motivating factor in the knife attack on 23 children at an elementary school on Friday. The suspected slasher, identified as Min Yongjun, "had been strongly psychologically affected by rumors of the upcoming end of the world," Xinhua reported. If you are similarly being psychologically affected, we urge you to calm down and read this or this.

How the world's Mayan apocalypse believers are waiting for the end

Around the world, believers are preparing for Doomsday this Friday - and restaurants are offering 'End of the World' specials.

Around the world, believers are preparing for Doomsday this Friday - with a senior Chechen politician saying, "Candles won't help you," to a panicky populace.

In China, dozens of believers have been arrested, and DVDs of 'apocalyptic propanda' seized.

Hotels near a Serbian mountain have seen hundreds of booking requests from believers who think a buried UFO might save them from doom on Friday.

In America, 'doomsday preppers' have fled to underground shelters - while TGI Friday is offering a 'Rib Eye to End All Rib-Eyes' as part of a special 'End of the World' menu.

In Britain, of course, most people have kept calm - with the AA advising motorists to allow extra time for their journeys as the end of the world approaches.

Here's how countries around the world have prepared for 'the end'.

China
The ‘Mayan apocalypse’ poses a serious danger in China – where 100 believers have been arrested for spreading rumours about the ‘end’ this Friday.

The state-run Xinhua News Agency said police arrested 101 believers and confiscated leaflets, DVDs and other apocalyptic propaganda in eight provinces across the country.

Nearly half of those detained are reported to be members of the group Almighty God, which is also called Eastern Lightning.

The group preaches that Jesus has reappeared as a woman in central China and has been accused of kidnapping and beating Christians to force conversions.

Russia
In Russia, fears over the 'Mayan apocalypse' prompted government minister Vladimir Puchkov to issue a statement saying that he had used "methods of monitoring planet Earth" to determine that the planet was not at risk.

Other politicians have been less reassuring.

Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov said on his website, ""People are buying candles saying the end of the world is coming. Does no one realise that once the end of the world comes, candles won't help them?"

In the northern town of Chelyabinsk, believers have built a Mayan archway out of ice.

Other towns reported panic buying of essential supplies. The mining town of Novokuznetsk saw 60 tonnes of salt bought in one week as believers laid in supplies.

Serbia
Hundreds of doomsday believers have flocked to a 'mystical' mountain in Serbia where an alien pyramid supposedly lies buried.

Mount Rtanj, in the Carpathians, supposedly contains alien relics with a special power that will preserve people on Doomsday.

Local hotels have seen hundreds of booking requests.

"In one day we had 500 people trying to book rooms. People want to bring their whole families," hotel manager Obrad Blecic told The Telegraph.

France
The village of Bugarach, in the foothills of the Pyrenees, has become a focus for Doomsday believers - some of whom think the village will be the only part of Earth to survive.

Believers think that UFOs will rescue people from the impending apocalypse.

The local mayor has said that 100 gendarmes will seal the town from 19-23 December to keep out Doomsday cultists.

Mayor Jean-Pierre Lord said,"My message is very simple. I am telling people don't come here to Bugarach for a simple reason there will be nothing to see here. So I insist don't come here - there will mainly be the police here," he said.

Britain
Britons have largely 'kept calm and carried on' - although some 'Doomsday preppers' are ready for the worst.

British sci fi author Edward O'Toole is so convinced disaster is inevitable that he has already moved to Slovakia to prepare for the end.
He says, “I think there will be a new Dark Age and I want my children to have a good chance of survival.”

Other organisations have kept a stiff upper lip.

The London Fire Brigade spokesman advised: "Fit a smoke alarm on each level of your home, then at least you might stand a chance of knowing that the end of the world is nigh ahead of those who don't.
"If you survive the apocalypse you'll be alerted to a fire more quickly should one ever break out."

The AA said: "Before heading off, take time to do the basic checks on your car and allow extra time for your journey.”

Mexico
Ethnic Mayans themselves are largely uninterested in the so-called ‘prophecy’.

The 800,000 Mayans who live in Mexico’s Yucatan area have been immune to the hysteria – but it has inspired some Mayans to take an interest in traditional beliefs.

“The Western belief in the end date ‘long count calendar’ has inspired a resurgence in interest in the Mayans’ own traditional beliefs in Mexico and Guatemala,” said Andrew Wilson, a University of Derby academic who studied the phenomenon.

Self-styled ‘Mayan Elder’ Hunbatz Men has written extensively about the calendar, and about how the Mayans had eight separate calendars – many extending far beyond the so-called ‘end date.’

Men, and other Mayans, do not predict the world will end on December 21.

America

The American government released a statement reassuring its citizens, saying "The Maya celebrated the end of every calendar cycle, they did not consider them as predictions of a global catastrophe."

'Doomsday preppers' in America are ready for apocalypse - but hotels and restaurant chains are also prepared.

T.G.I Friday's has an 'end of the world' special called "Last Friday" in Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, Orlando, Tampa and Washington D.C.

The "End-of-the-World" Menu offers a Mayan Margarita, the Last First Bite appetizer, the Rib-Eye to End All Rib-Eyes entree and Final Countdown dessert.

NASA has an entire website devoted to debunking the so-called 'Mayan Apocalypse' - particularly claims that a 'rogue planet' wil collide with Earth.

The space agency claims that scientists would have been tracking any such object for at least a decade, saying, “The story started with claims that Nibiru, a supposed planet discovered by the Sumerians, is headed toward Earth.

FEMA Emergency Alert System. National Activation. Anything New?

I'm sure that all of you were sitting on the edge of your seat, wondering what catastrophic event was going to happen during the FEMA activation of the National Emergency Alert System. Many of you were probably watching TV in your bunkers:) Here is what I got out of it. What did you get out of it?

UPDATE 8-10-2011 - Fear VS Fact...Comet Elenin: Extinction Level Event Notable Impact November? Is Leonid Elenin even a real person?

UPDATE: 8-10-2011

The above video mentions very clear similarities to the movie DEEP IMPACT.

Take a look at similarities to the movie DEEP IMPACT...

"Deep Impact is a 1998 science-fiction disaster-drama film released ... in the United States on May 8, 1998....The plot describes the attempts to prepare for and destroy a 7-mile wide comet, which is expected to collide with the Earth and cause a mass extinction...

On May 10, 1998, teenage amateur astronomer Leo Biederman (Elijah Wood) discovers an unusual object near the stars Mizar and Alcor at a star party. ...learns that the object is a comet, and calculates that it will impact with Earth...

...MSNBC reporter Jenny Lerner (Téa Leoni) investigates... "Ellie". She discovers that Ellie is not a mistress but an acronym: "E.L.E.", for "Extinction-Level Event". ...President of the United States Tom Beck (Morgan Freeman) advances the announcement of the grim facts: The comet...is 7 miles (11 km) wide, large enough to destroy all life if it strikes Earth (although how the U.S. government learned of the comet's existence is not specified). The United States and Russia have been secretly constructing in orbit the spacecraft Messiah, which they plan to send on a mission to destroy the comet with nuclear weapons. Life changes drastically worldwide...

...declares martial law, and announces that governments worldwide are building underground shelters. The United States' national refuge is in the limestone caves of Missouri. The US government conducts a lottery to select 800,000 ordinary Americans aged 50 and under to join 200,000 pre-selected scientists, engineers, teachers, artists, soldiers, and officials...

...a cloud of dust that will block out the sun for two years. This in turn will destroy all remaining life aside from that which has been evacuated underground..."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deep_Impact_(film)

Discovered by LEO
Object discovered by amateur astronomer
E.L.E. = Extinction Level Event
Martial Law has been discussed regarding disasters and is planned for them
African American President
Underground Bases and Cities currently being built at a breakneck pace.
Recent order of MREs and body bags by FEMA is ginormous

This one is one that I don't actually agree with, however, it does show another side of the opinions on this subject.

REMEMBER THAT THERE WAS A NEWS PIECE A FEW MONTHS AGO ABOUT DUEL SUNS FROM A STAR....DON'T YOU WONDER IF THEY WERE SAYING THAT SO THAT THEY COULD FOLLOW UP WITH IT WHEN ELENIN GETS CLOSER, SAYING THAT IT IS JUST THAT STAR?!

UPDATE 8-4-2011

Diameter of coma of comet Elenin exceeded 200,000 km

GFSC / NASA / L. Elenin
A few hours ago I got the first original comet images in FITS format, taken on August 1 (many thanks to Karl Battams, STEREO team member). Several frames was damaged, but the team believes that will solve this problem at the next session. I stacked all images by the comet movement, this has increase the singnal/noise ratio, see the comet with more “details”.
So, the first results. The comet has grown. Now the diameter of it’s outer coma exceeded 200,000 km! Of course, at this time we have only low resolution images, but they still allow us to estimateits current size. I want to remind you that the outer coma, it’s very discharged gas envelope, not the nucleus itself, estimates of the nucleus size has not changed. On the left picture you can see the comet itself, as well as the angular size of the Sun, if it was located at the same distance as comet. Impressive?

The first images of the comet Elenin from STEREO-B

GSFC / NASA
A few hours ago, the first images of the comet, obtained with the camera HI2-B of spacecraft STEREO-B, was available. Animation is created from the so-called beacon frames, which used for checking the accuracy of pointing and exposures settings . Original, full size frames will be downloaded to the Earth on August 4. At this time, the comet will appear on the images from HI-1B camera, which has higher resolution. The study of comets on the unique images taken with the STEREO spacecraft has just begun!

REMEMBER THIS?...
"ELENIN, according to some researchers stands for Extinction Level Event Notable Impact November — also encoded into the name is Elevin Nine (Nov. 9), and LEONID (a meteor shower that peaks in November)."http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-640370
TELL ME THIS IS JUST A COINCIDENCE...
Nationwide Emergency Alert System (EAS) Test Introduction
FEMA, in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), will conduct the first nationwide Emergency Alert System (EAS) Test on November 9, at 2:00 p.m. Eastern.
FEMA, the FCC, and NOAA’s vision for improving the EAS is incremental, which means testing the readiness and effectiveness of the EAS as it currently exists today is the first step. A more effective and functional EAS requires continual testing to identify necessary improvements so that all levels of the system can better serve our communities and deliver critical information that will save lives and property.
EAS Participants provide a critical public service to the nation as the resilient backbone of alert and warning when all other means of communication are unavailable. EAS Participants include all broadcasters, satellite and digital radio and television, cable television and wireline video providers who ensure the system is at a constant state of readiness.
The nationwide EAS Test is not a pass or fail measure, nor will it specifically test Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) compliant equipment (although CAP compliant equipment should pass the Emergency Action Notification [EAN] live-code in the same manner as legacy EAS equipment).
FEMA and its federal partners understand that improving the EAS is a process that takes time. IPAWS has compiled experiential lessons learned and best practices from the Alaska EAS Tests in 2010 & 2011 as well as through the EAS rebuilding effort and tsunami live-code test in the U.S. Virgin Islands (located in the EAS Tests and Demonstrations section).  Laboratory research is also being conducted at IPAWS.
IPAWS, in coordination with the FCC, is continually engaging the EAS Community through many activities, including information updates, workshops, roundtables, webinars, and on-site State and local EAS demonstrations to continue a solutions-oriented dialogue. IPAWS has also developed an external idea sharing website, A National Dialogue on the Emergency Alert System to discuss best practices and lessons learned from the EAS Community on a variety of topics that will support discussions during webinar and roundtable events.
The alert and warning landscape is in an important state of transition; from the current system of radio, television, cable, satellite, and wireline broadcast media-based alerting to a future system that integrates new technologies for a more universal access to alert and warning messages.
Future testing of the EAS will assess the effectiveness and reliability of other technologies to achieve the ultimate goal of timely alert and warning to American public in the preservation of life and property. http://www.fema.gov/emergency/ipaws/eas_info.shtm#0

************END UPDATE****************
As many of my readers know, Comet Elenin is a probably disaster for Earth.  On or around November 9, 2011 the Earth should cross the threshold of it's debris tail.

This is an interactive NASA chart that displays the comets trajectory through our solar system:

According to some researchers, ELENIN stands for Extinction Level Event Notable Impact November.  Also encoded into the name is Elevin Nine (Nov. 9) and LEONID (a meteor shower, peaking in November).

While there are the theories above and that Leonid is not a real person, here is an interview with the astronomer...or is he just someone diverting us from the actual acronym?

Rough Translation:
Full interview in Russian language of HTB NTV with the discoverer of comet C/2010 X1 aka ELENIN, astronomer Leonid Elenina. Below there's a translation of the original interview's transcription available in the Russian TV website. I used Google translator and fixed some syntax, but there are still some parts with nonsense phrasing:

"Today, the rumors about the imminent end of the world, which have recently appeared more, fly around the world faster and faster. Thousands of residents of Rome, took everything of value out of their homes and fled from the city, scared by the prophecy of a terrible earthquake. Allegedly 100 years ago, an Italian self-taught astronomer, announced that on 2011, May 11th, the Italian city would be wiped off from the face of Earth.

The source of global hysteria, the first in 20 years, is flying towards Earth - Comet Elenin - told the Russian astronomer. There's massive discussion on the Internet, whether or not, alien spaceships are hiding behind it and approaching of Earth. The governments know this, but keep the information from the public.

According to another version, the planet faces a collision with the comet. NTV correspondent Sergei Malozemoff, convinced by such popular rumors, has decided to seek answers in the scientific community.

The Panic on the Internet began with a genuine snapshot, released by Argentine astronomers - few people paid attention to the date - April 1st. In the center - a comet with a symbol from 2010 X1 Elenin, and on each side, wrote the scientist, - something very much like two alien spacecraft. There it goes! - The viral end of the world on the 'net.

Roman Chelyuskin, chief editor of the blog service: "This issue continues to gain momentum. For instance, during the first week of May, the number of records of the comet Elenin are 30 times the number of posts that we made in April. "

The name of Comet's discoverer - Russian Leonid Elenina - was immediately transcribed as "Extinction Level Event" and "aliens from the planet Nibiru in November." Even mentioned the name of the hero of the catastrophe blockbuster "Deep Impact", Leo. All signs that there is no Comet Elenin. A secret world government hide the horror that awaits us.

A simple search on the open scientific bases led NTV Group at the Institute of Applied Mathematics, Keldysh, where Leonid Yelenin works. NTV correspondent contacted him and was convinced that he is real.

Strong handshake, no signs of hoax. Leonid Yelenin - 29 years, did study at the Moscow Aviation Institute, then worked as a Property Agent, and after the crisis has returned to his beloved science. He shows his college registers to everyone who doesn't believe him. Complains: There's someone else registered under his name in the Facebook.

Interviewer: "How do *letters come*?" (I couldn't figure out what he did mean)
Leonid Yelenin: "Well, in the last week, I came from USA and since then, in Russia they say: "We do not believe you. Show your passport." Then I said: Why do I have to show something to you?" (Confused phrasing here)

That was in December. Leonid has watched the sky on a remote connection through a telescope of his American colleagues in New Mexico, and - lucky! - Said This was a new comet with a 3 kilometers diameter. By international rules it was immediately named after his own name. About the notorious alien ships in the picture, there's a prosaic explanation:

http://postimage.org/image/gf7mde1w/

Leonid Yelenin: "This is actually a star. Just under a certain process of adding a few frames from the velocity of the comet, these stars are pulled in tracks.(???) In principle, any astronomer should know about this. "

Interviewer: "So the bright spot is smeared on night photography(???).
Leonid Yelenin: "Yes, of course. The discovery of a comet was a dream to me, since childhood. Mission accomplished. Of course, I was happy and stuff. But now this (conspiracy) is happening about my comet. For instance, there are these hysteric letters like: "Leonid, tell us the truth. I sold my house and my family and I are leaving for the mountains." The comet is absolutely safe for the Earth.
It will be held at 34 million kilometers from Earth."
According to calculations Elenin X-1 passes the Earth in October. It will be seen with binoculars or through naked eye. **Then he touched a comet and the orbit of Mercury, if not dissipated** (absolutely confused phrasing), then goes away from the solar system. And we won't it for another 12.000 years. Supporters of doomsday, I am sure it's time to invent some other new theory, said the astronomer."

Then there is NASA's preparedness video.  It could just be that they are trying to get their employees on the preparedness wagon that is good for everyone to be on, or they could be hinting at something larger.  Here is the video.

There is something brewing, no matter if it is a scare regarding solar flare activity or if it is the passing of a near Earth object.

The Dutch are preparing for the Apocalypse.

"No matter what you believe, many factors are pointing us to uncertain times ahead. Stormy waters, lets say ...which will test mankind like never before. There is also a real threat of World War III on our horizon as the middle East heats up. Scientist at NASA are saying solar flares are a real risk as well!!!

At some point starting by December, 2012 we need to be prepared for economic collapse. It's very important that we keep 6 to 1year worth of water, food, and fuel in storage. The more we all prepare the less damage we will suffer.... We need to become debt free and truly independent of electricity, gasoline. Preparedness is peace of mind."

The following is from CNN http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-640370:This incoming object appears to be massive. The strange thing is that only a select few sources worldwide have seen the object a few of which we traced back to DARPA directly.
Big seems to be the appropriate word for we now have the first actual  astronomical calculations that puts the coma (the part they can see is 50,000 miles in diameter) Yes a big rock!
“On April 8th at our Russian observatory we carried out planned observations of Comet C/2010 X1 (Elenin). An   analysis of the results of the observations shows a rapid growth of the   coma. Besides the internal compact gas envelope, the forming rarified   external coma is also visible in the image.
Its diameter exceeds 1 minute of arc, or 80,000 km! It is possible that such a rapid growth of the coma is associated with   the apparent superposition over it of the comet’s dust tail, which  after  opposition, still remains invisible to the earthly observer.”
The coma is what astronomers actually see and is actually much bigger   than the core. It’s the green in the second above picture that they are saying   is 80,000 km or 50,000 miles across. We could estimate that the core  might be half the diameter of the  coma or approximately 25,000 miles.  Big enough—it seems to be already  stirring up the Earth under our feet.
We have news out of Cornell University that sustains the view that Elenin is playing a direct part in causing large earthquakes.
Professor Mensur Omerbashich is saying that his “georesonatorconcept in which tidally induced magnification of Earth masses’ resonance causes seismicity.”   This trashes NASA’s assertion that the humongous earthquake we saw in   Japan and before that with the ones in Chile and New Zealand were   coincidental with alignments between Elenin, the Earth and the Sun.

The earth’s seismicity can arise as a natural responseof our planet to its alignments with other celestial objects.Professor Mensur Omerbashich

Omerbashich demonstrates empirically that “all strong (~M6+)   earthquakes of 2010 occurred during the Earth’s long astronomical   alignments within our solar system. He shows that the same holds true   for all very strong (~M8+) earthquakes of the decade of 2000s.
He  asserts that the “comet C/2010 X1 (Elenin) has been adding to robustness in terms of very strong seismicity since 2007.Elenin will continue intensifying the Earth’s very strongseismicity until August-October, 2011.”
It seems like every time Elenin lines up with Earth and another planet or the Sun we have an earthquake, the nearer Elenin gets the bigger the earthquakes.
Now of course we have many earthquakes and if we showed them all,  this  chart would then lose much of its meaning. The 9.1 earthquake in  Japan  though will never lose its meaning and it happened on cue with an   alignment with Elenin.

The next alignment occurs on September 6th. Watch the news on this date for a large earthquake. Use this as a  barometer. If a massive quake occurs, then you know this info has  substance.

Many sceptics are out there. You have to look at all the info before making a snap decision.
Below you will see two articles, one from the Washington Post and   another from The New York Times from 28 years ago, but read them like   they were printed yesterday.  Astronomy deals practically with eternity   so what is 28 years? NASA came right out and admitted they found a   massive very cold body outside the solar system.

Now they are not saying  a thing about this or whether this massive comet  has anything to do with  their discovery almost three  decades ago. What could possibly be their  motive for keeping a tight lid  on this terribly important subject?

Mass panic concerns, obviously.
Washington PostMystery Heavenly Body Discovered31-Dec-1983A heavenly body possibly as large as the giant planet Jupiter and   possibly so close to Earth that it would be part of this solar system   has been found in the direction of the constellation Orion by an   orbiting telescope aboard the U.S. infrared astronomical satellite. So   mysterious is the object that astronomers do not know if it is a planet,   a giant comet, a nearby “protostar” that never got hot enough to  become  a star, a distant galaxy so young that it is still in the  process of  forming its first stars, or a galaxy so shrouded in dust  that none of  the light cast by its stars ever gets through. “All I can  tell you is  that we don’t know what it is,” Dr. Gerry Neugebauer, IRAS  chief  scientist for California’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and director  of the  Palomar Observatory for the California Institute of Technology,  said in  an interview.
The most fascinating explanation of this mystery body, which is so cold it casts no light and has never been seen by optical telescopes on Earth or in space,   is that it is a giant gaseous planet, as large as Jupiter and as close   to Earth as 50 billion miles. While that may seem like a great  distance  in earthbound terms, it is a stone’s throw in cosmological  terms, so  close in fact that it would be the nearest heavenly body to  Earth beyond  the outermost planet Pluto. “If it is really that close,  it would be a  part of our solar system,” said Dr. JamesHouck of  Cornell University’s  Center for Radio Physics and Space Research and a  member of the IRAS  science team. “If it is that close, I don’t know how  the world’s  planetary scientists would even begin to classify it.”
The mystery body was seen twice by the infrared satellite as it scanned the northern sky from last January to November, when the   satellite ran out of the super-cold helium that allowed its telescope to   see the coldest bodies in the heavens. The second observation took   place six months after the first and suggested the mystery body had not   moved from its spot in the sky near the western edge of the   constellation Orion in that time. “This suggests it’s not a comet because a comet would not be as large as the one we’ve observedand   a comet would probably have moved,” Houck said. “A planet may have   moved if it were as close as 50 billion miles but it could still be a   more distant planet and not have moved in six months’ time.
Whatever it is, Houck said, the mystery  body is so cold  its temperature is no more than 40 degrees above  “absolute” zero, which  is 459 degrees Fahrenheit below zero.  The telescope aboard  IRAS is cooled so low and is so sensitive it can  “see” objects in the  heavens that are only 20 degrees above absolute  zero. When IRAS  scientists first saw the mystery body and calculated  that it could be  as close as 50 billion miles, there was some  speculation that it might  be moving toward Earth. “It’s not incoming  mail,” Cal Tech’sNeugebauer said. “I want to douse that idea with as  much cold water as I can.”

The New York TimesClues Get Warm in the Search for Planet X30-January-1983John Noble WilfordSomething out there beyond the farthest reaches of the known  solar  system seems to be tugging at Uranus and Neptune. Some  gravitational  force keeps perturbing the two giant planets, causing  irregularities in  their orbits. The force suggests a presence far away  and unseen, a large  object that may be the long-sought Planet X.
Evidence assembled in recent years has led several groups of   astronomers to renew the search for the 10th planet. They are devoting   more time to visual observations with the 200-inch telescope at Mount  Palomar in California. They are tracking two Pioneer spacecraft, now   approaching the orbit of distant Pluto, to see if variations in their   trajectories provide clues to the source of the mysterious force. And   they are hoping that a satellite-borne telescope launched last week will   detect heat “signatures” from the planet, or whatever it is out there.
The Infrared Astronomical Satellite was boosted into a  560-mile-high  polar orbit Tuesday night from VandenbergAir Force Base,  CA. It  represents an $80-million venture by the United States, Britain  and the  Netherlands. In the next six or seven months, the telescope is  expected  to conduct a wide-ranging survey of nearly all the sky,  detecting  sources not of ordinary light, but of infrared radiation,  which is  invisible to the human eye and largely absorbed by the  atmosphere.  Scientists thus hope that the new telescope will chart  thousands of  infrared-emitting objects that have gone undetected—stars,  interstellar  clouds, asteroids and, with any luck, the object that  pulls at Uranus  and Neptune. The last time a serious search of the skies was made, it led to  the  discovery in 1930 of Pluto, the ninth planet. But the story begins  more  than a century before that, after the discovery of Uranus in 1781  by the  English astronomer and musician William Herschel. Until then,  the  planetary system seemed to end with Saturn.
As astronomers observed Uranus, noting irregularities in its  orbital  path, many speculated that they were witnessing the  gravitational pull  of an unknown planet. So began the first planetary  search based on  astronomers’ predictions, which ended in the 1840s with  the discovery of  Neptune almost simultaneously by English, French and  German  astronomers.
But Neptune was not massive enough to account entirely for the   orbital behavior of Uranus. Indeed, Neptune itself seemed to be affected   by a still more remote planet. In the late 19th century, two American   astronomers, WilliamH. Pickering and Percival Lowell, predicted the size and approximate location of the trans-Neptunian body, which Lowell called Planet X.
Years later, Pluto was detected by Clyde W. Tombaughworking at Lowell Observatory in Arizona. Several astronomers, however, suspected   it might not be the Planet X of prediction. Subsequent observations   proved them right. Pluto was too small to change the orbits of Uranus   and Neptune; the combined mass of Pluto and its recently discovered   satellite, Charon, is only one-fifth that of Earth’s moon.
Recent calculations by the United States Naval Observatory have   confirmed the orbital perturbation exhibited by Uranus and Neptune,   which Dr. Thomas C. Van Flandern, an astronomer at the observatory, says   could be explained by “a single undiscovered planet.” He and a   colleague, Dr. Robert Harrington, calculate that the 10th planet should   be two to five times more massive than Earth and have a highly   elliptical orbit that takes it some 5 billion miles beyond that of   Pluto—hardly next door but still within the gravitational influence of the Sun.
Some astronomers have reacted cautiously to the 10th-planet predictions. They remember the long, futile quest for the planet Vulcan   inside the orbit of Mercury; Vulcan, it turned out, did not exist. They   wonder why such a large object as a 10th planet escaped the exhaustive   survey by Mr. Tombaugh, who is sure it is not in the two-thirds of the   sky he examined. But according to Dr. Ray T. Reynolds of the Ames   Research Center in Mountain View, CA, other astronomers “are so sure of   the 10th planet, they think there’s nothing left but to name it.”
At a scientific meeting last summer, 10th-planet partisans tended  to  prevail. Alternative explanations for the outer-planet  perturbations  were offered. The something out there, some scientists  said, might be an  unseen black hole or neutron star passing through the  Sun’s vicinity.  Defenders of the 10th planet parried the suggestions.  Material falling  into the gravitational field of a black hole, the  remains of a very  massive star after its complete gravitational  collapse, should give off  detectable X-rays, they noted; no X-rays have  been detected. A neutron  star, a less massive star that has collapsed  to a highly dense state,  should affect the courses of comets, they  said, yet no such changes have  been observed.
More credence was given to the hypothesis that a “brown dwarf”  star  accounts for the mysterious force. This is the informal name  astronomers  give to celestial bodies that were not massive enough for  their  thermonuclear furnaces to ignite; perhaps like the huge planet  Jupiter,  they just missed being self-illuminating stars.
Most stars are paired, so it is not unreasonable to suggest that the Sun has a dim companion. Moreover, a brown dwarf in the neighborhood might not reflect enough light to be seen far away,   said Dr. John Anderson of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena,   CA. Its gravitational forces, however, should produce energy detectable   by the Infrared Astronomical Satellite.
Whatever the mysterious force, be it a brown dwarf or a large  planet,  Dr. Anderson said he was “quite optimistic” that the infrared  telescope  might find it and that the Pioneer spacecraft could supply an  estimate  of the object’s mass. Of course, no one can be sure that even  this  discovery would define the outermost boundary of the solar system.
So the signs are out there. The Government has prepared underground bases and has continuity of government procedures in place. Notable among them are:
1. REX84 (Readiness Exercise 1984)
Activated due to a catastrophic event that is yet to take place.
2. A Pentagon announced plan that directly correlates with a 2009, Army funded, Rand Corporation study that  called for an internal United States police force to combat civil  unrest.  The plan basically calls for the  deployment of a 20,000 strong  internal troop force inside the continental  United States (CONUS) that was set to be trained by 2011, thus  dovetailing into the current troop and equipment movements around the country reported by truckers as well as many more troop sightings by everyday citizens.

SO WHAT CAN YOU DO?

That  all depends on what you believe. You can choose NOT to see the signs  and go about your daily lives without a care, or you can try and prepare  yourself and your family for any contingency.
Be prepared for massive earthquakes. Stock up on food, water, and ammunition.
Be  prepared to get underground during the passage through the comets tail  on November 9th. Our magnetosphere that day will not protect us

ELENIN Position Update for May 25 2011: By Morpheus of 50kView.com
1 – Comet Elenin is currently at 1.853 AU distance from the earth.
2 – The comet Elenin will pass through the orbit of planet Mars on June 27 2011.
3 – Comet Elenin will reach the orbit pattern of Earth on August 1 2011.
4 – On August 19 2011 comet Elenin will passs through the orbit of Venus.
5 – On September 5 Elenin will reach the orbit of Planet Mercury.
6 – On September 11 2011 the comet Elenin will be at its closest point of its orbit to our Sun which will be a distance of (.482 AU). Elenin will then begin its journey back to outer space on its 11,000 year orbit of our sun. Before Elenin leaves the known solar system it will pass relatively close Earth.
7 – On September 25 2011 the comet Elenin will come in direct alinement with the Earth and our Sun as it passes between. At this point Elenin will be at .412 AU to Earth and .593 AU to the Sun.
9 – On October 17 Elenin will again cross the Earth orbit of the sun. At this date Elenin will be at the very close celestial distance of .232 AU to the Earth.
As comet Elenin approaches the Earth’s orbit and comes in alinement between the Sun and the Earth all types of magnetic, gravitational, electrical and other influences of this comet will affect the tectonic movements of earth, the weather patterns of earth and the communications systems on earth. Crops of food could become affected. Electrical power could be affected. The Ocean’s tidal forces could become affected. The earth’s magnetic polarity could become affected.
The geological history of earth shows that cataclysmic changes did occur about 11,000 years ago when comet Elenin last past by the Earth’s path in its orbit of the Sun.
The comet does not have to hit earth to have monumental affects on the natural rhythms of the Earth.
It would be wise to stock up on food and necessities to be safe rather than sorry you did not prepare. By Morpheus

Motifs about the end-of-world.
Gargoyle coming out of a suitcase?
They only want people to survive who have certain kinds of perceptive skills.
Does this have to do with Elenin?
Why are they building these bunkers?
Who will be invited to live in these underground bunkers?
Do you have to buy your place?
This is all very interesting!!!
