U.N. chief urges end to Egypt violence
By William L. Watts
DAVOS, Switzerland (MarketWatch) -- United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon on Friday called for an end to violence in Egypt and urged the government to respect freedom of speech. Police battled protestors in massive demonstrations across Egypt Friday, as unrest mounted. At a news conference on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum annual meeting in Davos, the U.N. chief said "all concerned people and leaders should ensure" events don't lead to further violence and called on leaders to "listen attentively" to the people. Asked about Egypt's efforts to shut down the Internet, Ban called on leaders to respect "freedom of expression and association."
