WASHINGTON — The powerful attack that overwhelmed computers at U.S. and South Korean government agencies for days was even broader than initially realized, also targeting the White House, the Pentagon and the New York Stock Exchange.
Other targets of the attack included the National Security Agency, Homeland Security Department, State Department, the Nasdaq stock market and The Washington Post, according to an early analysis of the malicious software used in the attacks.
Many of the organizations appeared to successfully blunt the sustained computer assaults.
The Associated Press obtained the target list from security experts analyzing the attacks. It was not immediately clear who might be responsible or what their motives were.
South Korean intelligence officials believe the attacks were carried out by North Korea or pro-Pyongyang forces.
The attack was remarkably successful in limiting public access to victim Web sites, but internal e-mail systems are typically unaffected in such attacks.
Some government Web sites — such as the Treasury Department, Federal Trade Commission and Secret Service — were still reporting problems days after the attack started during the July 4 holiday.

SEOUL, South Korea — South Korean intelligence officials believe North Korea or pro-Pyongyang forces committed cyber attacks that paralyzed major South Korean and U.S. government Web sites, aides to two lawmakers said Wednesday.
The sites of 11 South Korean organizations, including the presidential Blue House and the Defense Ministry, went down or had access problems since late Tuesday, according to the state-run Korea Information Security Agency. Agency spokeswoman Ahn Jeong-eun said 11 U.S. sites suffered similar problems.
She said the agency is investigating the case with police and prosecutors.
In the U.S., the Treasury Department, Secret Service, Federal Trade Commission and Transportation Department Web sites were all down at varying points over the July 4 holiday weekend and into this week, according to American officials inside and outside the government.

Layoff Letterman! It's in bad taste!
Lay Off Letterman! It's in bad taste! Don't blame it on your writers. You are the one who delivered the lines and continue to promote them.
Why can these guys get away with such poor taste and have most people in the media support them? Doesn't this remind you of Perez Hilton? We all know where that led in regard to Carrie Prejean.
So, essentially, the only way you can succeed in this world of ours is if you defame someone else's name or you hold a place on the planet as a victim and martyr, expect special attention and have zero values. Anyone else have a point of view on this subject matter?
It's sad that these type of issues have come to mean so much because there are so many REALLY important things, such as pay monitoring by the Treasury, beginning with TARP companies.
Palin eviscerates LettermanSource Here
After Letterman made crude sexual jokes about Palin looking like a 'slutty flight attendant' and her 14 year old daughter getting knocked up by Alex Rodriguez, Sarah Palin fought back -- and she is absolutely destroying the lame late night host. To demonstrate their seething hatred for Palin, many in the mainstream media are still trying to find the negative for Palin in this spat. Olbermann called her a 'delusional maniac' and Yahoo had this headline running all day calling her solid interview with Matt Lauer 'awkward' -- but all in all it's a fairly universal decision for Palin. Even Joy Behar and Barbara Walters took Palin's side on the matter today on The View. Glenn talks about how Palin is getting the best of it with Letterman.

Prejean, who also appeared on "Geraldo at Large," stood by her belief she was stripped of her title due to her political views.Source Here
"They are not going to tell the truth on a lot of things. I've heard I've missed 52 missed appearances. Since the press conference was only a month ago, that would be two a day," said Prejean.
She also says Lewis asked her to give him a "response in writing" over a Playboy partial nudity photo shoot — a request that "absolutely shocked" her.

Economy Stabilized.
News media outlets reports that Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner has stated that the economy has stabilized.
Whoohoo! Let's celebrate!
Wait...do we trust that he actually knows something about this subject or that he is telling the truth? He didn't pay his taxes and made the excuse that it was a mistake and that he didn't know he hadn't paid. So, does he actually know what is going on with the economy, or is this a prediction made for strategic political confidence?
As much as we could all use the positive news that the economy is possibly getting better, I'd trust a psychic prediction more than I'd trust Geithner on the subject of the economy (not to mention nearly any other subject).
How do you feel about the current state of the economy?
