‘Tonnes’ of dead fish found on Swedish lake

Tuesday, April 9, 2013 6:01

Published: 8 Apr 13
Masses of fish found dead on a lake in eastern Sweden have left experts theorizing that the harsh winter and icy conditions prevented the fish from getting enough oxygen.

The Dannemore lake, near Östhammar in the east of Sweden, was discovered to be covered with floating fish this weekend as the ice began to melt. Among the dead fish were pike, perch, roach, and bream.

"It was not a pleasant sight, there were tonnes on fish on the lake," Timo Hakulinen, who made the discovery, told the Aftonbladet newspaper.

23 Dolphin deaths add to mystery in Indian River Lagoon since Jan. 1

Scientists work to explain link, cause of manatee, pelican deaths
Apr. 10, 2013
Written by Jim Waymer
FLORIDA TODAY
Mysterious manatee and pelican deaths mount: Manatee deaths have reached 100 and pelican deaths top 250 in the Brevard County region. Video by Jim Waymer.
Add bottlenose dolphins to this year’s list of species dying mysteriously in the Indian River Lagoon.
Researchers have documented 23 dead dolphins in the lagoon since Jan. 1, all but a few in Brevard County. That’s more than twice what researchers would expect, based on the death rate during the past decade.
"It’s especially scary now to be losing so many manatees, and now dolphins," said Teresa Mazza, a biologist with the Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute, which gathers the carcasses for research purposes.
The lagoon has seen at least 100 mysterious manatee deaths in just over eight months and 250 dead pelicans in the past two months, with most in Brevard.
Most of the dead dolphin have been adult females. The bottlenose deaths have occurred from Titusville to Central Brevard.

More UFOs. Are they really military exercises?

UFO Over Oregon Caught On Tape [VIDEO]

By Lee SpeigelPosted:

On the same day that a huge meteor crashed in Russia after breaking up over the Ural Mountains and injuring more than 1,000 people, two residents of Grants Pass, Ore. videotaped something very odd in the sky above their home.
According to the International Business Times, Heather Scherffius and Gregory Soldner watched as a mysterious object hovered above the Southern Oregon sky around 10:30 p.m. on Feb. 15.
"It looked like a metal disc of some sort ... like it was made of metal and the way it moved was pretty weird," Soldner told NBC affiliate KOBI-TV5. "I don't believe in flying saucers, but, you know."
"Both Greg and Heather described the object as metallic, occasional blinking lights and moving at angles they have never seen any aircraft or object move before," KOBI-TV news reporter Kyle Aevermann told The Huffington Post in an email. "They claim it moved at 90-degree angles. It's very hard to tell in the clip because they weren't using a tripod and the clip itself wasn't the best quality since it was filmed on their digital camera."
As the couple watched, the UFO seemed to be stationary in the sky for a few minutes before moving sporadically.
"It would move up and down, back to a spot and zigzag," Soldner said.
"It was there like 20 or 30 minutes, and then it was gone," Scherffius added.
NBC5 added a filter to the original video footage in order to see the UFO a little clearer in this report:
Aevermann said there were "some mixed reactions at the station. Some people just thought it was complete nonsense and that it was all made up, but most of us enjoyed it."
NBC5 made an attempt to contact the Federal Aviation Administration to see if any other UFO sightings had been received, but was told that very few UFOs are actually reported and an investigation was forthcoming.

UPDATED Zombie UFO Crash Disaster Full-Scale Exercise Nevada Governor 2014 David Lory VanDerBeek

A friendly youtuber royan rosche sent me the archive of the ORIGINAL FEMA page captured on March 2nd, 2013 by Web Archive.org. Bravo Royan!

This is not a joke. This is a REAL FEMA DRILL scheduled for “Saturday April 27th 2013 9:00am to 5:00pm” in Moscow, Idaho involving 100 participants. There are two scenarios. The original event on the calendar of the Fema.gov website can be found here

Zombie UFO Crash Disaster Full-Scale Exercise UPDATE 03-03-2013 1:16 PST: After I posted this article this morning, FEMA PULLED THE EVENT DOWN replacing it with a statement that the information is now “only available to coalition members.” Having foreseen this I took screen shots of the event, so that I could preserve the record. You will see the screen shots at the bottom of this article. COPY THOSE SCREEN SHOTS AND SEND THEM VIRAL.

This message from me is not to incite fear or panic. I’ve contacted the person Sandy Rollins ‘srollins@latah.id.us’ listed for the drill in the event with the following message:
Hello Ms. Rollins,

I am the leading candidate for governor of Nevada in 2014. http://nevadagovernor2014.com/
You are the contact for this page on Fema.gov:
Because this drill is supported by federal funds paid by the taxes of the US people including the citizens of Nevada, you are required to provide the public with precise information about your activities in this drill. I expect you to respond within the week with an email with the detailed information regarding the two scenarios mentioned. I also expect the email and phone number of your immediate supervisor. Whether or not you cooperate, I will be reporting your response or lack thereof to the nation on my television show and youtube channel.
Thank you,
David Lory VanDerBeek

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Why is this important? Because it raises serious questions about what our government believes about the fundamentals of our human reality. Do the leaders of our nation believe in UFOs and zombies really? If so, what is their proof? They must have proof in order to spend money on drills? If they have proof, they must provide it to the general public? What is the threat? How imminent is it?
NOW THE MUNDANE TRUTH…
Personally, I do not believe in UFOs or zombies and neither does anyone in the federal government. It is quite likely that our government has a created a bio-chemical weapon that can induce zombie-like behaviors in humans and therefore assist in a mass murder event to promote global depopulation without taking the blame. In fact Dr. Steven Schlozman, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School has made public statements stating how a contagion event could result in a zombie apocalypse. But because of government/elitist propaganda in the media and Hollywood, millions of people will accept it as a zombie event from aliens rather than a chemical weapon attack by other humans. The UFO piece of the propaganda is to induce the public to accept the depopulation event as a “culling” of the human herd by a “higher intelligence” life form that has been watching earth. These alleged UFO aliens will be executing judgment as they see fit because they feel that we are destroying our earth and therefore many of us need to die in order “re-balance” nature. This is the emerging earth-worship religion combined with the new UFO-alien/ufology religion. Both are promoted by the elite who have take over our government and feed this propaganda to us through popular culture movies and video games.  Of course, these are silly stories, but through the use of technology, media, science, and even holograms, it will be possible for world governments to convince large sectors of the general public that these events are real. My position is and always has been that these events are HUMAN CONSPIRACIES. The fact that the federal government is actually noting these events on official websites and generating events for drills in response for these events is an indication that they are ready to move. These events will cause global chaos to which the only solution proposed by the elite will of course be global government. In the bigger picture, these events will be used to justify the final surrender of our national sovereignty as the dictators of the earth including Obama claim we must form a global government to combat this alien invasion. Yes, it is insane, but then the elite of this earth are insane people. Surrendering our national sovereignty will conveniently include paying global taxes and forming a global army. One reason they believe this will work is because  they want to convince religious people that these UFOs are the ‘messiah’ event long awaited. I can agree with the elite on one thing, this FEMA event of their is certainly a sign of the times.
Strange triangular object photographed over Yemen - Mar 7, 2013
A Yemeni photographer has captured what he believes to be an unidentified flying object (UFO) over a mountainous area in northern Yemen.
Aseel Badiyan’s picture shows a white triangular, object soaring through the clouds, reported UAE based Emirates 24/7 on Thursday.
The photo has been corroborated by the deputy chairman of the Saudi astronomy association, Sharaf al-Sifyati, who says :”when this Yemeni photographer contacted me and showed me that picture, I felt that he was telling the truth. I checked the picture and found that is authentic and does not involve any tricks or tampering. As for that object, I believe it is strange and unfamiliar but I am not sure it is a space object because these phenomena remain a possibility rather than a reality. I think this incident has to be fully investigated,” according to Saudi Arabic language daily
Ajel. Badiyan was using his camera to take shots of the mountain range, almost 90 kilometer from the capital Sanaa.
The photographer was not surprised at his sighting. “I have surfed the internet for similar sightings worldwide and found that the picture I captured is the clearest so far…
I believe that those who are behind such objects are advanced people who possess a very intelligent civilization,” Badiyan told Saudi and Yemeni newspapers.
“There is no doubt that we are not alone in this spacious universe,” al-Sifyati added.
UFO Sighting in Melbourne, Florida on March 15th 2013 – 7 Red lights following eachother
I was outside on the phone when i seen one red light in the sky Far up, I thought nothing of it until i seen another one following it. Then 6 more slowly followed it in the same path and disappeared one by one as they got far out!. I thought it was just a plane or something until i seen a lot more.
Black Triangle Sighting in Georgetown, Indiana on March 8th 2013 – Seen @least4 objects @ different times, sometimes 2 @ a time in different directions. Had lights but weren't necessarily all the same. Red, white, and green. Didn't look like the usual airplane or copter lights. Didnt make any noise.
Was outside looking up @ the stars March 8,2013 about 10:00.Saw lights that didn’t look like a normal airplane or helicopter. Object would hover then move in ways that airplanes for sure can’t do. Was lower than an airplane would usually fly. Was @ least 4 different objects that came from different directions during a 3 hour period that I noticed. I was in and out a few times looking. Saw @ least 2 each time. Husband saw several also as did daughter. We are thinking they are drones. I would like to know why there are so many, and what are they doing? I have seen these objects on several other occasions. First time @ Patoka lake right after dusk about 4 years back. What really caught my attention was the way they moved. That night there was 3 and seemed to move to gather unlike any aircraft I have seen. I am no expert but no plane I’ve seen has ever moved like that or hover with no sound that I noticed. I would really like to know what these are. I believe like I said before that they are drones. Why so many in a quite area? Creeps me out to think Big Brother is practically looking in our windows. What’s next? Strange too that Rand Paul spent most of his day going on and on about drones this last week.
UFO Sighting in Kentucky on February 6th 2013 – Scary, unlike anything iv every seen. Life changing.
I was sitting on my bed after waking up at around 2am. I herd a humm like noise outside and At first I had the feeling that I was being watched but then noticed a constant humm. I looked outside to try and figure out what it may be. My head started to hurt as I got close to the window. I looked up and there was this fuzzy object just hovering over the trees. It stayed in the same spot for about 5 minutes befor quickly darting across the sky.
It scared me. My heart beat fast, it got harder to breath, my head hurt and my body got heavy.
I felt scared. Like my life was threatened.
My feelings were as if I was lost. Like I didn’t know what was going on. I felt as if I just got out of a horror house. It made me scared to go back to sleep. It has been 34 hours since I last slept.
I lost sight of the object when it started to dart across the sky. Kinda Like a bird does when you get to close. Like I had scared it. But it wasn’t animal. It wasn’t an aircraft. It wasn’t something that was very common. Nothing in the sky stays in one spot then quickly flys away. Nothing.
UFO Sighting in Steilacoom, Washington on March 8th 2013 – driving home and witnessed 8 or more orange lights. i am use to helicopters and aircraft at rhe local base. this was neither.
I was driving when I first saw the orange balls of light. They were moving like no aircraft I have ever seen coming to and from the local air base. What really caught my attention was the number of objects, 8 maybe more. I can always hear the helicopters and planes, for the number of objects, no sound. My question, was this the military? They were not fly towards the bases normal flight pattern. did they show up on radar? Did the FAA receive any notification?
UFO Sighting in Keego Harbor, Michigan on March 8th 2013 – looking ot my window i noticed a bright orange light that hovered.didn't move then disappered
i was in my kitchen on the phone talking to my old friend when i looked out the window…i then seen over by sylvan lake a strange light hovering over the tree tops about amile or so away from my home.i watched it for a while.at first i thought is was a plane seeing as the airport isn’t far from here but it didn’t move.it was bright and orange in color.kinda strange but fascinating…then disappeared
Thousands of Sharks Close Beaches Off Florida Coast
Thousands of sharks spotted off Florida coast (VIDEO)
By  | The Sideshow
Several beaches in South Florida are closed off to swimmers because thousands of sharks have been spotted swimming alongside the shoreline. WPTV reports that an estimated 15,000 sharks are migrating north using the currents of the Atlantic as part of their annual voyage home after heading south for the winter.
The station says most of the sharks it has spotted so far appear to be spinner sharks, which are known for leaping out of the water and spinning in the air as they hunt their prey.
And while swimmers are being kept out of the water during this especially crowded shark passing, one expert says we are actually much closer to the elusive predators than we might like to think.
Florida Atlantic University shark researcher Steve Kajiura told TC Palm that during the months of January and February, a shark is only an average of 60 feet away from swimmers.
“There are thousands of sharks right there, and yet this year, there have been no bites in Palm Beach County waters,” he said. “Our data has shown that the bulk of the migration occurs in January and February, but it may be a little behind this year due to the warmer weather and water temperatures.”
The Broward Palm Beach New Times says Palm Beach County is one of the most likely areas for humans to be bitten by sharks. Still, the odds of being bitten remain incredibly low, even during the peak migration season.
Thousands Of Sharks Spotted Migrating Off Florida Coast
Palm Beach, FL (WPTV) — Area beaches are closed to swimmers after thousands of sharks have been spotted swimming along South Florida shores.
Marine biologists have spotted tens of thousands of sharks from Boca Raton to Jupiter since the start of the month. They say the marine animals are moving north, after migrating south for the winter.
shark
Chopper 5 spotted hundreds of sharks swimming along Palm Beach this morning.
On Tuesday off Midtown Beach, lifeguards spotted a school of spinner sharks moving through the area. The red flags quickly went up, meaning swimmers could not go in the water at that time.
Spinner sharks can be seen jumping out of the water and spinning, as they chase their prey through the water.
Although they’re an interesting sight to see, sharks are quite dangerous to swimmers.
Doctors at St. Mary’s Medical Center say they treat at least five to six shark bite victims a year. They say the injuries are usually minor, but even small shark bites can put victims at risk of infections.
To protect yourself from getting bitten by a shark, swim along beaches where lifeguards are present. Also, leave your jewelry on the shore. Scientists say sharks are attracted to silver, along with the colors yellow and gold.
MASSSSSS Global!!!! Fish Deaths. All In One Day.
Tens of thousands of dead fish wash ashore on South Carolina beach
Visit NBCNews.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy
Thousands of dead fish washed up on mile and a half stretch of beach in South Carolina Tuesday, officials said, at least the second such occurrence in the region in a week.
Roughly 30,000 to 40,000 menhaden fish, 6 to 8 inches long, were spread along the shore from DeBordieu Beach in Georgetown County, S.C., to Pawleys Island, a town on the state's Atlantic Coast, and thousands more were expected, Pawleys Island Police Chief Michael Fanning said.
Similar incidents have happened in the area before, including late last week when hundreds of thousands of the small, oily fish were washed ashore near Masonboro Island, N.C., and last year when an influx of dead starfish were found on the same beaches.
The fish were first spotted by beachgoers taking advantage of the unseasonably warm weather.
"We came down to the beach for the day just to have, you know, a nice day on the beach, smell the fish smell, came down to look for shells and all these fish -- dead," Pawleys Island resident Pat Hawkins told NBC station WMBF in Myrtle Beach, S.C. "It's a shame. I don't know what's causing it."
Officials from the Department of Health and Environmental Control and the Department of Natural Resources visited the area Tuesday and took water samples in an effort to determine what killed the fish.
Marine experts determined the fish died from hypoxia, which occurs when the amount of oxygen in the water drops.
“On Friday we had a new moon (which caused) real high high tides and real low low tides,” Belltold The Sun News. “Probably what happened was a school (of menhaden) got in an area of water on a high tide, in a hole or depression, and at low tide they were trapped and depleted the oxygen in the water. Then, all the fish would suffocate. Then, when the tide came back in, it washed the dead fish out and they washed up on the beach.”Mel Bell, director of the Office of Fisheries Management for the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, said the occurrence was an entirely natural event.
"When it's one species like that, that's usually indicative of a low dissolved oxygen situation because they tend to be more fragile," added Dan Hitchcock, an assistant professor at the Baruch Institute of Coastal Ecology and Forest Science at Clemson University in Georgetown, S.C.
Fanning said the city has no plans to clean up the fish and will let the seagulls and the tide clear the sand.
“We’re just dealing with it as a force of nature," Fanning said. "There are some residual fish, most of it has gotten washed away, there were a ton of birds down there. If you went down there (Thursday), you’d get more birds than fish.”
Menhaden fish, typically used by fishermen as bait, are a small, silver fish, whose oil is used in vitamin supplements, lipstick and livestock feed.
California: Thousands of Dead Fish Wash Ashore at Pawleys Island
Shoreline covered with thousands of menhaden fish appear but scientists believe mass deaths a natural event
Thousands of dead fish have been washed up on a beach at Pawleys Island in south California - the second such occurrence in a week.
Police have confirmed thousands of menhaden fish were found dead and thousands more were expected.
Hundreds of thousands of the small, oily fish were washed ashore near Masonboro Island outside Wilmington in north California. The  Department of Natural Resources has been notified of the latest incident.
Scientists believed the deaths were a natural event because oxygen levels in the water had plummeted to nearly zero.
Pawley Island Sgt Steve Pop told WBTV: "It's an occurrence called hypoxia.
"That is dissolved oxygen levels in the water that drop to a level that is not sustainable for the fish."
"We've got some deep holes off the north inlet that holds these fish," Pop added. "This time of year the fish congregate in these holes which is depleting the oxygen source."
Sarasota County removes dead fish from south county public beaches
Posted: Thursday, January 17, 2013 11:53 am | Updated: 12:02 pm, Thu Jan 17, 2013.
Sarasota County staff members working with non-violent offenders from the Sarasota County Sheriff's Offender Work Program have been deployed to Caspersen Beach, 4100 Harbor Drive, Venice, to remove dead fish that have washed ashore. Cleanup efforts also have been scheduled today for county-owned beaches, including Manasota Beach, Blind Pass Beach, Venice Beach and others. The suspected cause of the fish kill is a red tide bloom located offshore in the Gulf of Mexico.
The dead fish started washing ashore earlier this week. County staff, including lifeguards and employees of Parks and Recreation, will continue to monitor all public beaches for impacts of red tide, and will respond as the need arises.
Residents and visitors with asthma or chronic respiratory impairments who are planning to visit a local beach are encouraged to be aware of beach conditions where red tide impacts are being reported. For those who are susceptible, the symptoms associated with red tide tend to become more noticeable when the winds are blowing onshore.
Current beach conditions can be found online at Mote Marine Laboratory's website,www.mote.org/beaches. Residents and visitors also can register to receive email reports about specific beaches. For telephone updates, call 941-BEACHES (232-2437) and press "1" for Sarasota County beaches.
Hundreds of thousands of dead fish reported on Masonboro Island
MASONBORO ISLAND, NC (WECT) – Hundreds of thousands of dead fish have been reported this week at Masonboro Island by state environmental officials, according to a spokesperson for the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
Environmental officials explain that the fish, Atlantic menhaden, which travel in very large groups, took a wrong turn, up Loosins Creek.
In under an hour, the area caused dissolved oxygen levels in the water to drop to close to zero, which ended up killing them.
As a result, the dead fish have been discovered along the island's beaches and in the water.
(Source: Michele Walker, NCDENR)
Officials say they've noticed a pattern of dead fish in winter months and attribute it to the menhaden tightening their school.
Workers with Coastal Management, Water Quality and Marine Fisheries are keeping an eye on the area, and throughout the weekend, dead fish will probably continue to surface.
The workers have a monitoring station set up that checks the water for dissolved oxygen levels, temperature, pH levels and other data.
"This may be the first time we have had continuous monitoring of water quality in an area at the exact time of a fish kill," said Jim Gregson, Surface Water Protection supervisor for the state Division of Water Quality, in a statement. "The data recorded by Coastal Management's monitoring station was a big help in determining the cause of this event."
(Source: Michele Walker, NCDENR)
"You want to make sure it's not an algae or something that could be a concern for human health and a lot of times, you don't know what caused it," said Stephanie Garrett, who is with NCDENR. "Being able to look at what the physical conditions were at the time, you can see that they just ran out of oxygen."
Officials say that while the dead fish don't necessarily pose a danger to humans, they want to make visitors aware of the occurrence.
Low Oxygen Levels Kill an Estimated 2,000 Fish in Grand Island Lake NEBRASKA
KHGI-TV/KWNB-TV/KHGI-CD-Grand Island, Kearney, Hastings
Wildlife officials are investigating after an estimated 2,000 dead fish have turned up in one Grand Island lake.
An angler ice fishing on Suchs Lake reported the fish kill to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission last week.
"We had an angler who went over there to the lake to ice fish last week, and when he started drilling holes through the ice to fish, he noticed some dead fish floating up through them," fish and wildlife biologist Brad Eifert, of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, said.
A preliminary investigation revealed that low oxygen levels in the water led to the die-off, Eifert said.
"We had oxygen levels below one part per million, which is lethal to most fish species," he said.
One cause for those low oxygen levels, he said, could be the recent snow fall, covering the lake's surface, making it impossible for fish to breathe.
"The heavy snow cover inhibits sunlight penetration into the water," Eifert said, "which doesn't allow the plants to photosynthesize and produce oxygen, so when that happens, the plants actually use oxygen and then the oxygen levels drop fairly rapidly."
Officials say these kinds of fish kills aren't uncommon, but they usually occur later in the winter season.
"Normally they happen later in the year," Eifert said. "We haven't had ice for very long -- about three weeks now or about a month -- and the snow cover really wasn't as thick as we sometimes get, so it was a little unusual that way."
"It's a natural occurrence, it happens throughout the Midwest and it seems to happen to a lot of the smaller lakes and ponds," Todd McCoy, director of the Grand Island Parks and Recreation Department, said.
Also adding to the problem, city officials say, is the large number of geese that inhabit the lake.
"Sometimes the waterfowl with their deposits in the lake sometimes can make the lake not as clear, and that reduces the visibility, reduces the light that gets into the lake," McCoy said. "And in the winter time when you get the ice on top of the lake, you get snow on top of the lake, and then if you have murky conditions then some of the plants don't grow, and that reduces the oxygen levels."
So how will the die-off affect fishing at the popular lake?
"There'll be less fish in there for anglers to catch this spring, and probably a lot smaller fish for people to catch," Eiefert said.
But experts say it's likely that some of the fish will survive.
"The ones that do survive will actually grow larger, and they'll actually thrive a little bit more now that they'll have a little more space, a little more oxygen for them," McCoy said.
Officials plan to go in to the lake in the spring when it thaws and remove all the dead fish, which they say could cause a strong odor for a while.
"There'll be a lot of dead, floating carcasses, but they typically decompose rather quickly," McCoy said. "The smell will be around for a week or two, and then be gone."
Eifert says replacing the possible thousands of fish lost will be costly. At about $1.50 per fish, restocking the lake could add up to about $3,000.
Red tide reported off Collier beaches
Corey Perrine/Staff
The footprint evidence is clear where a fish was picked away by birds   Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, at Barefoot Beach State Preserve in Bonita Springs, Fla. An agal bloom, known commonly as red tide, is a phenomenon where high concentrations of Karenia brevis, a microscopic marine algae, contain toxins that paralyze the nervous system in fish. In large quantities, they cause the water to appear red or murky, hence the name. The blooms can affect humans causing eye and respiratory conditions such as coughing, sneezing, tearing and itching.
Dead fish have washed ashore on North Naples beaches as a red tide continues to hang on offshore of Southwest Florida, Collier County beach monitors reported Wednesday.
Red tide is a bloom of microscopic algae that releases a toxin that can kill marine life and cause respiratory irritation in humans, including as recently as early last week. The county is warning people with emphysema and asthma to avoid the beaches.
One beach goer estimated that Barefoot Beach was littered with one dead fish every five feet for a mile, and 20 fish were reported on Vanderbilt Beach north to Wiggins Pass, county pollution control worker Rhonda Watkins said.
Watkins said the county's regular beach rake routine picked up the Vanderbilt Beach fish, but beach raking is not allowed on Barefoot Beach, which is within a preserve area.
Satellites are tracking patches of elevated to high chlorophyll levels stretching offshore from southern Pinellas to Collier counties. More water samples are scheduled to be taken from the beaches Thursday.
Water samples collected earlier this week showed red tide at very low levels at Vanderbilt Beach and Seagate and at low levels at the Naples Pier and South Marco Beach.
To report dead fish or red tide symptoms, call 239-252-2502. Red tide updates are available by calling the county's hotline at 239-252-2591.
