Comet Elenin Hit By An Explosion?

Amateur astronomer group tracking the Comet claims to have captured an explosion that changed Elenin’s trajectory yesterday. Could it be a hoax or disinformation? Russia Today interviews author Brooks Agnew on celestial events (featured video).

A group of amateur astronomers that has been tracking Comet Elenin for several weeks claimed to have captured footage (below) of an enormous explosion on Jupiter yesterday. Spartan Maverick, a YouTube alias, first suspected that the U.S. Government had launched a nuclear missile to destroy the Comet. Another interpretation is, that the Comet had discharged its enormous load of electricity on Jupiter, possibly becoming a benign entity that’s not a threat anymore. Jana Briz says the natural phenomenon is very much like plasma elecricity or lightning. There was disagreement as to whether the Comet had changed its course or disintegrated as a result. Still another amateur speculation is, that Elenin was not a comet and something else all together.

This news could not be verified from other sources. The Internet is abuzz with speculation on Comet Elenin and Nibiru, termed the “Brown Dwarf”, that is said to be following the Comet on its coattails. Could this be a hoax? Could Elenin be the cover for a real close call, the arrival of an asteroid on November 9?

Time Magazine reported today that NASA is planning to abandon its space station early December. NASA cited as reason the unexplained crash of an unmanned Russian Soyuz supply rocket in Siberia on August 24. The $100 billion space station has been operated for over a decade as a joint venture between the U.S. and the Russian Federation.

Russia Today interviewed American author Brooks Agnew on Elenin and celestial doomsday scenarios. Agnew says there's a significant lack of information on Elenin, implying disinformation to obscure another celestial event, the close call by an asteroid on November 9. He says that's when President Obama is scheduled to announce a new emergency broadcast system.

Comet Elenin has been getting a lot of press in recent months — and now it seems almost certain to be a total bust. Meanwhile, people in the know have been following a comet that has never been hyped much, but seems almost certain to be a fine, though not spectacular performer for many months to come.

Comet Garradd passed M71 in Sagitta on the evening of August 26th.

We're talking about Comet C/2009 P1 Garradd. At the end of August it was already a fine sight through telescopes of all sizes, shining high in the evening sky at 7th magnitude. It has a bright head, a sharp starlike nucleus, and a tail that's stubby but well defined. And it's forecast to shine near its 6th-magnitude best all the way from October to mid-March. Not since Hale-Bopp has any comet remained so bright for so long.

Comet Garradd passes through the Coathanger asterism on the evening of Friday, September 2nd, then crosses the northwest corner of Sagitta, and soon enters Hercules, where it will remain until February. That means it’s high in the west after nightfall in October, lower but still in good view in November, and near the west-northwest horizon at the end of twilight around Christmas. But by then it’s already up higher in the east before the first light of dawn; the best viewing tips from evening to morning on December 16th.

I have mentioned Comet Elenin (officially known as C/2010 X1) before, but it seems people are still interested in it.

A couple of blogs that I wrote about this comet previously can be read by clicking here andhere.

It seems that the comet has broken up, or it at least seems to be disintegrating. However, this has not stopped conspiracy theorists from continuing to be interested in the comet. Some people have suggested that the comet has broken up because a spaceship is emerging from it.

Well, I have to be honest, I have no idea what is going on with this comet;
