OBAMA SENDS TROOPS TO DEFEND THE MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD IN EGYPT

Thursday, 27 June 2013 10:35

Obama Sending U.S. Troops to Egypt

Obama Sending U.S. Troops to Egypt
As Egyptians prepare for massive protests against the U.S. government-backed Muslim Brotherhood regime of Mohamed Morsi, the Obama administration is set to deploy hundreds of American troops to Egypt. While more than a few analysts have argued that U.S. forces will be used to continue propping up “Islamofascists” in the Middle East, authorities from both governments claim the soldiers are merely being sent as part of a nine-month international “peacekeeping” scheme.

According to official accounts, the so-called “Multinational Force and Observers” (MFO) mission, composed of troops serving 13 governments, is aimed at controlling riots and violence. Another primary purpose, government spokesmen claimed, is enforcing the 1979 peace treaty between Israeli and Egyptian authorities. News reports and official statements suggest the American troops, serving under MFO command, will be operating security checkpoints and responding to threats.

The exact date of deployment has not been announced yet, but U.S. troops spent some six months training at Fort Hood and Fort Irwin for the mission and will reportedly be ready to go in the “near future.” Local U.S. media reports, citing military officials, said American forces had been trained for riot control featuring exercises with Molotov cocktails and other “dangerous items” in anticipation of violent protests. Another possibility would be protecting the border with Israel, according to reports.

Two soldiers quoted in a KCEN-TV report offered few details as video of U.S. troops wearing police riot gear flashed on the screen. "Just what I've seen over the course of the past week, this unit is already far more ready for this type of threat than we were a week ago," said Lt. Matthew Wilkinson without elaborating on the nature of the threat. Another, PFC Perez Alexander, explained: "We want to be as professional as possible so that, whatever situation we encounter, the opposing force knows that we mean business and we know what we're doing."

The American soldiers, whose training ended last week, are set to be deployed in the dangerous and volatile Sinai Peninsula. Security has continued to deteriorate throughout the regAMion following the uprising that swept longtime dictator Hosni Mubarak from power, with some analysts suggesting the escalating unrest could spark problems for both Israel and the increasingly hardline Muslim Brotherhood regime in Cairo.

In a June 19 press release, the U.S. Army 1st Cavalry Division confirmed that a battalion “task force” from the 3rd Brigade Combat Team would indeed be heading to the Sinai this summer to participate in the international “peacekeeping force.” According to the statement, the more than 400 troops will be based on the southern end of the Sinai Peninsula, near Sharm-el-Sheikh, manning “observation posts” and checkpoints along the southeast coast.

Egyptian officials, meanwhile, were quick to downplay the American deployment. "The 400 U.S. soldiers coming to Egypt as mentioned in the media are part of the periodical renewal routine for the U.S. faction of the 13-state multinational force deployed in Sinai since the peace treaty. They are not armed with military operations gear," Egyptian military spokesman Ahmed Ali was quoted as saying. "We are providing this clarification as we respect the right of the great Egyptian people to know the truth from its original sources and to prevent distortion of information by any instigators."

The timing of the news, however, has made analysts and commentators suspicious. An Egyptian group known as “Rebels” or “Rebellion,” described in media reports as “secular” and “liberal,” announced over the weekend that it had gathered some 15 million signatures to impeach Morsi, who was elected after Mubarak was forced out. The petition cites a number of grievances including lack of security, widespread poverty, shortages of basic goods, and more.

“We’ve had enough of Morsi… He has done nothing, he’s only helped his own people,” said Ghada Naguib, a member of the organization’s coordinating committee, in an interview with the Global Post. “We don’t need him to do anything anymore. We just need him to leave… We will finish our revolution.” The group is calling for massive, nation-wide protests against the elected government on June 30, and counter-demonstrations are expected.

Writing in FrontPage magazine, analyst Arnold Ahlert blasted the deployment of U.S. troops to Egypt as “yet another remarkable display of Obama’s determination to secure the Middle East for Islamofascists.” Ahlert also slammed the “spectacular absurdity” of using American forces to augment Egyptian police and defend Morsi’s “thuggish” Islamist Muslim Brotherhood regime from popular protests calling for its ouster.

An editorial in Investor’s Business Daily, entitled “Now Obama Using Troops To Prop Up Cairo's Islamofascists,” came to similar conclusions, saying the president was sending U.S. forces to “protect a regime that supports terrorists.” Citing news reports, the editorial said Obama’s effort was meant to help the “Islamofascist regime there repel its own citizens protesting increasing human-rights violations.”

More than a few analysts have also highlighted what they perceive as problems with Morsi’s Islamist rule. Among the most serious: media censorship, increasing attacks on the Coptic Christian minority, packing government organs with Islamic extremists, cracking down on protesters, issuing lawless “decrees” that critics call dictatorial, ramming through an Islamist constitution, prosecuting foreign government-funded “democracy” groups, and more.

More Jihad at Fort Hood; Obama sends troops to help Egypt’s Mursi

Former Muslim Brotherhood
Member Now Peace Activist

On November 5, 2009, a Jihadist inspired by the Muslim Brotherhood-inspired Anwar Al Awlaki murdered 14 and injured 32 on post at Fort Hood, TX. Today, 400 troops from Fort Hood are being sent to Egypt on a ‘peacekeeping mission’ and what can only be described as an effort to help Muslim Brotherhood president Mohammed Mursi, who is currently persecuting protesters who object to Sharia law.
The sick irony is that Mursi’s worldview matches that of the Fort Hood Jihadist Nidal Malik Hasan and Awlaki. By potentially aiding the Mursi regime, these 400 troops will essentially be defending the cause of the jihadist that gunned down their brothers in arms.
In the latest twist in our upside-down war on terror, President Obama withdraws troops fighting terrorists in Afghanistan and sends others to Egypt to protect a regime that supports terrorists.
According to reports, the commander-in-chief is deploying a riot-control unit from Fort Hood to Egypt to help the Islamofascist regime there repel its own citizens protesting increasing human-rights violations.
More than 400 Army soldiers from the Texas base will soon man posts throughout Egypt as part of a nine-month “peacekeeping mission.” They’ve been trained to respond to threats, including protests and riots.
“Soldiers encountered Molotov cocktails and other dangerous items in the training,” according to the local TV news station that broke the story out of Killeen, Texas.
Seem too far-fetched? Well, how about an excerpt from a Fort Hood Press Release?
The 1st Cavalry Division announced today a battalion task force from the 3rd Brigade Combat Team will deploy to Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula this summer as part of the Multinational Force and Observers peacekeeping force.
The 6th Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, will observe and report violations of the Egyptian-Israeli peace treaty during its nine-month deployment. The 400-plus Soldier U.S. battalion will be based on the southern end of the Sinai Peninsula, near Sharm-el-Sheikh. The U.S. Soldiers will man observation posts and check points along the southeast coast of the Sinai Peninsula between Eilat, Israel and Sharm-el-Sheikh, Egypt.
More sick irony?
Since the attacks in Benghazi on 9/11/12, evidence has been mounting and is all but unimpeachable, that Mursi was involved in the attacks, which resulted in the murder of four Americans – Glen Doherty, Tyrone Woods, Sean Smith, and Ambassador Christopher Stevens. As such, that wold make the President of Egypt our Fort Hood troops are being sent to support, complicit in an act of war on the United States.
Here is a video taken from a cell phone outside the U.S. Special Mission Compound during the attack. One gunman can be heard shouting (in Arabic), “Don’t Shoot us! We were sent by Mursi!”
Meanwhile, the supposedly ‘conservative’ congressman whose district includes Fort Hood – Rep. John Carter – is touring the country with Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL), who was one of 70 members of the 111th Congress registered as a Socialist. Carter and Gutierrez are members of the House’s version of the ‘Gang of 8′ in the immigration debate.
As Obama sends troops from Fort Hood to protect the agenda of a Muslim Brotherhood president (which includes Jihad), the Republican congressman who represents Fort Hood is pushingObama’s immigration agenda.
To contact Rep. John Carter about this despicable use of American troops and, for that matter, his despicable alliance with a registered socialist named Luis Gutierrez, below is a list of addresses for his various offices as well as phone numbers.

OBAMA RUNS FROM LEADERSHIP ON ANOTHER TRIP & DEMANDS RUSSIA TURN OVER SNOWDEN

Is Obama really naive enough to believe that Russian leaders would just pick up the phone and arrange for extradition of Snowden?

While Obama is on a vacation...oops...I mean, a diplomatic trip to Africa, he is spending millions...I mean A LOT OF BUCKAROONIES!  Not only that, but he is escaping from the scandals that are going on right under our noses, in the United States.

"Hundreds of U.S. Secret Service agents will be dispatched to secure facilities in Senegal, South Africa and Tanzania. A Navy aircraft carrier or amphibious ship, with a fully staffed medical trauma center, will be stationed offshore in case of an emergency.
"Military cargo planes will airlift in 56 support vehicles, including 14 limousines and three trucks loaded with sheets of bulletproof glass to cover the windows of the hotels where the first family will stay. Fighter jets will fly in shifts, giving 24-hour coverage over the president's airspace, so they can intervene quickly if an errant plane gets too close.
"The elaborate security provisions -- which will cost the government tens of millions of dollars -- are outlined in a confidential internal planning document obtained by The Washington Post
"While the preparations appear to be in line with similar travels in the past, the document offers an unusual glimpse into the colossal efforts to protect the U.S. commander in chief on trips abroad." source: USAToday

One of these scandals is Edward Snowden's leaking of information (that is supposed to be top secret) from the NSA.  Obama is trying to make Snowden's leaks are no big deal and that Russia should just pick up the phone and arrange extradition, as if Russia is actually a "friend" of the United States.  For those keeping up with the current affairs around the globe, we all know that Russia has been supplying our "enemies" with nuclear arms and is on the side of our "enemies", without nice things to say about the United States.  However, Obama seems to think that he is so powerful that Russia should just bow and provide.

THE FOLLOWING VIDEO WAS PUBLISHED ON Jun 24, 2013
Edward Snowden and Wikileaks' Sarah Harrison who is accompanying him are "safe and healthy," Julian Assange said during a conference call broadcast by RT. "The current status of Mr Snowden and Harrison is that both are healthy and safe and they are in contact with their legal teams," the WikiLeaks founder said. "I cannot give further information as to their whereabouts," Assange added. "Snowden is not a traitor, he is not a spy he is a whistleblower who told the public the important truth," he pointed out.

Obama has other issues going on, but through traveling and "campaigning" for his causes, he is avoiding the leadership part in his role as the President of the United States of America.  He is attempting to let things cool off and is attempting to have his cronies take care of attacking whistleblowers, helping him avoid the other scandals, and creating diversions from the attention on these matters.

Meanwhile, there are sites, including Facebook, where there are now "fans" gathering of Edward Snowden.  The longer that Snowden is on the run, the more infamous he is becoming.

As you can see from the video displayed above, the President is avoiding answering questions regarding Snowden.  What a leader!  He sure knows how to make a country great!  NOT!!!  His job is not being done by him.  It's disgusting!

US officials have charged NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden with espionage. They told the Washington Post that federal prosecutors filed a sealed criminal complaint against the now 30-year-old who handed over a series of government documents to the media revealing secret NSA surveillance programs. He has also been charged with theft and conversion of government property. RT's Political Commentator Sam Sacks and Abby Martin, Host of Breaking the Set have had their say on what these charges mean for Snowden.

Are we just supposed to trust Obama?  Snowden is being charged under the Espionage Act.  This is the 5th whistleblower who is being charged under the Espionage Act.  What about whistleblower protection?  People should know what protection they have, and people who work in top security agencies, who have taken an oath of secrecy, should not be revealing things while under these oaths/promises that they have signed.

David Sanger, chief Washington correspondent for The New York Times, shares analysis Edward Snowden's movements and the overall fallout of the global chase for the NSA leaker.

There is no extradition treaty with Russia.  Obama says that there have been "useful conversations with Russia".  What does this mean?  He has no idea that the Russians think that the United States is wrecking the world on purpose.  They especially hate Obama and his administration.  Yes...HATE.

Here is more on what Russia really thinks about the United States.  If Obama starts being a leader, maybe he can start to change things around so that scandals are taken care of in the proper manner and relationships with countries are mended.  However, he seems to feel that being away from the country or "campaigning" is more important.  That is called running away from leadership and taking ownership of the issues you are supposed to be owning.

The Russians Think We’re Wrecking the World on Purpose

March 19th, 2013 - 1:09 pm
“In Russia, most analysts, politicians and ordinary citizens believe in the unlimited might of America, and thus reject the notion that the US has made, and continues to make, mistakes in the [Middle East]. Instead, they assume it’s all a part of a complex plan to restructure the world and to spread global domination,” writes Fyodor Lukyanov on the Al Monitor website today. Lukyanov, who chairs Russia’s Council on Foreign and Defense Policy, laments what he derides as a “conspiracy theory.” Nonetheless, he reports, President Vladimir Putin and the Russian elite think that the United States is spreading chaos as part of a diabolical plot for world domination:
From Russian leadership’s point of view, the Iraq War now looks like the beginning of the accelerated destruction of regional and global stability, undermining the last principles of sustainable world order. Everything that’s happened since — including flirting with Islamists during the Arab Spring, U.S. policies in Libya and its current policies in Syria — serve as evidence of strategic insanity that has taken over the last remaining superpower.
Russia’s persistence on the Syrian issue is the product of this perception. The issue is not sympathy for Syria’s dictator, nor commercial interests, nor naval bases in Tartus. Moscow is certain that if continued crushing of secular authoritarian regimes is allowed because America and the West support “democracy,” it will lead to such destabilization that will overwhelm all, including Russia. It’s therefore necessary for Russia to resist, especially as the West and the United States themselves experience increasing doubts
It’s instructive to view ourselves through a Russian mirror. The term “paranoid Russian” is a pleonasm. “The fact is that all Russian politicians are clever. The stupid ones are all dead. By contrast, America in its complacency promotes dullards. A deadly miscommunication arises from this asymmetry. The Russians cannot believe that the Americans are as stupid as they look, and conclude that Washington wants to destroy them,” I wrote in 2008 under the title “Americans play monopoly, Russians chess.” Russians have dominated chess most of the past century, for good reason: it is the ultimate exercise in paranoia. All the pieces on the board are guided by a single combative mind, and every move is significant. In the real world, human beings flail and blunder. For Russian officials who climbed the greasy pole in the intelligence services, mistakes are unthinkable, for those who made mistakes are long since buried.

OBAMA SAYS RELIGIOUS SCHOOLS ARE DIVISIVE.

Obama offends Catholics in the UK, says religious schools are divisive

The Catholic media is up in arms over comments President Obama made during a speech while in Northern Ireland for the G8 summit. Obama made what is described as “an alarming call for an end to Catholic education,” in spite of the fact that it is considered “a critical component of the Church.”
Fr John Zuhlsdorf

In front of an audience of about 2,000 young people, including many Catholics, Obama claimed that Catholic education divides people and blocks peace, according to the Scottish Catholic Observer.
“If towns remain divided—if Catholics have their schools and buildings and Protestants have theirs, if we can’t see ourselves in one another and fear or resentment are allowed to harden—that too encourages division and discourages cooperation,” Obama said.
Ironically, President Obama made his comments just as Archbishop Gerhard Müller, the prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, told a crowd in Scotland that religious education upholds the dignity of the human person. Archbishop Müller said that Catholic schools should promote “all that is good in the philosophies of societies and human culture.”
Fr. John Zuhlsdorf quoted the Observer’s article on Fr. Z’s blog and added:
Another example of what this man wants: total isolation of any religious values in the private sphere alone. Pres. Obama is working either to intimidate or legislate or even TAX religious freedom out of the public square.
Off the top of my head, I can’t think of a foreign visit to a Islamic nation where he told people on his arrival that they shouldn’t have madrasas.  Can you?
Did he when visiting, say, Israel, say “You Jews shouldn’t have synagogue schools and you muslims shouldn’t have mosque schools.”  I can’t remember.  Did he?
Each of the articles drew numerous public comments, most suggesting that Obama be more concerned about the public schools in the United States than their parochial schools, which are working just fine.

Obama Ordered Stuxnet Virus. Impeachable Offense?

The U.S. is supplying weapons to these people who are committing crimes against the Syrian People!

Syrian rebels execute boy: ‘Anyone who curses the prophet is killed immediately’

A mother watched in horror as her 14-year-old son was summarily tried, sentenced and executed all because of a joke he’d exchanged with a customer at his Aleppo, Syria coffee kiosk.

While in her apartment, Nadia Umm Fuad heard a commotion outside with a neighbor shouting, “they have brought back the kid,” according to The Telegraph.
“I went out on my balcony,” she told The Telegraph’s Richard Spencer. “I said to his father, ‘they are going to shoot your son! Come! Come! Come!’ I was on the stairs when I heard the first shot. I was at the door when I heard the second shot,” she recalled.
“I saw the third shot. I was shouting, ‘That’s haram, forbidden! Stop! Stop! You are killing a child.’ But they just gave me a dirty look and got into their car. As they went, they drove over my son’s arm, as he lay there dying.”
This event — this murder of young Mohammed Katta — took place earlier this month and has created an international outcry exemplifying one truth in the civil war in that country — no one is wearing white hats. There are no good guys, only bad guys to varying degrees.
Who does one trust? A dictatorial regime that murders its citizenry, or murderous jihadists?
The problem arose when a customer demanded a coffee upon the promise to pay for it on another day. Young Mohammed joked good-naturedly: “I wouldn’t give the Prophet Mohammed credit if he came here today.”
The wrong people overheard. The rushed over, grabbed the boy, threw him in a car and drove away. Thirty minutes later they returned.
Young Mohammed was stumbling and clearly beaten and a bag had been placed over his head. And it was then that the twisted logic of the boy’s executioner was proclaimed.
“I heard them say, ‘People of Aleppo and people of Shaar! Anyone who curses God is given three days to repent. Anyone who curses the Prophet is killed immediately’,” Nadia Umm Fuad said.
The Telegraph continues:
The murder of Mohammed, a drummer boy in the revolution’s early protest marches, has shocked even the battle-hardened people of Aleppo. It is easy for some to blame, as they do, the regime for inserting spies behind rebel lines to carry out atrocities to discredit the rebels.
But the killing, to many, only confirms what they already know: that a wild and untamed version of the most militant Islamist credos has entered the conflict. Jabhat al-Nusra, the local affiliate of al-Qaeda, has issued a statement condemning the death and denying responsibility.
As violent as the al-Qaida-backed al-Nusra is, even more violent, fundamentalist factions have splintered off from that group.
al-Nusra-Front

Nadia Umm Fuad told Spencer that the city of Aleppo had changed recently. “We didn’t have any problems when the FSA controlled Aleppo,” she said. “There are so many groups now, that we don’t know who is in charge.”
The young boy was never given a chance to offer a defense on his own behalf when he was returned. Prior to being shot, he said nothing.
“I saw my son, and saw him dead, and saw a fountain of blood coming out of him,” his father, Abdulwahab Katta, said. “I too said nothing. I was mute.”
Justice under the Syrian regime is no less brutal. Early in the war they picked up 13-ywear-old Hamza al-Khatib in Deraa, located in Southern Syria. When government troops returned the boy to his parents, he’d been burned, beaten, kneecap smashed, shot three times and his genitals had been removed.
There are no guys in white hats in Syria — just thugs in black hoods.

WHO'S SIDE IS THE U.S. ON? ASSAD? REBELS?

Experts Aren’t Entirely Convinced That Syria Crossed Obama’s ‘Red Line’

Children carry portraits of Bashar al-Assad during a celebration of the capture of Qusayr by Syrian pro-government forces on June 6, 2013.
In his interview with Charlie Rose this week, President Obama emphasized that Syria is not Iraq, but there's at least one similar theme emerging. While the White House announced last week that the U.S. intelligence community has "high confidence" that the Assad regime used chemical weapons, thus changing Obama's "calculus" on arming the rebels, some experts say they're still skeptical. The U.S., Britain, and France claim they have evidence that Syrian troops used sarin gas on the battlefield, but it's unclear how the data was obtained or analyzed. “There are so many people who would like us to believe that the regime used chemical weapons,” a former senior U.S. official who has investigated weapons of mass destruction told the Washington Post. “You have to question whether any of those advocates were involved in collecting the evidence.”
The United Nations will only make a judgment based on evidence collected by its own inspectors, and while the chief U.N. weapons inspector is headed to the region next week to interview witnesses in neighboring countries, it's increasingly unlikely that Assad will allow U.N. inspectors into Syria itself. The U.S., Britain, and France have been calling for a U.N. investigation for months, and in the meantime they've each concluded that chemical weapons were used.
The countries based their assessments on evidence such as blood, tissue, and soil samples smuggled out of Syria by rebels or intelligence agents, but officials said they couldn't be more specific without compromising ongoing operations. “You can try your best to control the analysis, but analysis at a distance is always uncertain,” said David Kay, a former U.N. weapons inspector who led the search for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq after the 2003 invasion. “You’d be an idiot if you didn’t approach this thing with a bit of caution.” One senior diplomat countered that the evidence is convincing because it was collected from many different sources, some of them non-Syrian.
The fact that independent scientists can't confirm the countries' findings certainly sets off alarm bells following Iraq, but one U.S. official says the massive intelligence failure over Iraq's WMDs has made U.S. analysts exceptionally careful. “You have to use sophisticated analytic techniques that account for, and carefully weigh, competing evidence and subject your findings to intense self-imposed scrutiny,” the official said. That's good, but the rest of the world is probably going to need to see some scrutiny that isn't "self-imposed."

Following an assassination attempt on the Syrian prime minister, Wael Nader Al-Halqi, and allegations of the Assad regime using chemical weapons against its own people, the issue of military intervention in Syria is back on the political agenda. But is it something the Syrian people actually want?

Chuck Hagel has suggested that chemical weapons have been used in Syria, which Barack Obama said would be "a red line" with grave consequences. So will the West intervene in Syria? We look at the cost of an intervention, the support Bashar al-Assad has, the opposition to intervention by Russia and China, and the failures of interventions in other parts of the Middle East.

President Obama faces mounting pressure from lawmakers to help put an end to Syria's civil war. This while Damascus has developed a top-secret air-defense system. Washington Institute's Andrew Tabler has analysis. (Photo: AP)

As the war continues, Syrian officials are trying to convince Western countries that they should not support rebel forces because, the officials contend, many are extremists allied with Al Qaeda.

U.S. IS SENDING WEAPONS TO THESE PEOPLE...14-YEAR OLD BOY PUBLICLY EXECUTED BY ISLAMISTS

U.S. Declares Syria Rebel Group Terrorists, Sending Message to Opposition

By Dana Hughes and Alex Marquardt
The designation of the Syrian rebel group al-Nusrah Front as a terrorist organization at the same time the United States is formally recognizing Syria’s Opposition Coalition is not a coincidence. The Obama administration wants to send a clear a message that while it supports Syria’s Opposition Coalition to lead Syria’s democratic transition if or when the Assad regime falls, there is no place for extremism in the country’s future.
In an exclusive interview with ABC’s Barbara Walters, President Obama said that while the United States stands ready to fully acknowledge the group of Syria’s rebels as the legitimate opposition to the Assad regime, groups with ties to al Qaeda like the al-Nurah front will not be tolerated.
“Not everybody who’s participating on the ground in fighting Assad are people who we are comfortable with,” Obama told Walters. “There are some who, I think, have adopted an extremist agenda, an anti-US agenda. And we are going to make clear to distinguish between those elements.”   On Tuesday State Department Spokesperson Victoria Nuland detailed the organization’s crimes in a statement announcing the terror designation and sanctions on the group.
“Since November 2011, al-Nusrah Front has claimed nearly 600 attacks – ranging from more than 40 suicide attacks to small arms and improvised explosive device operations – in major city centers,” said Nuland. “During these attacks numerous innocent Syrians have been killed.  Through these attacks, al-Nusrah has sought to portray itself as part of the legitimate Syrian opposition while it is, in fact, an attempt by AQI to hijack the struggles of the Syrian people for its own malign purposes.”
In a background briefing with reporters on the designation, senior Obama administration officials  stressed  that the designation of al Nusrah is not a reflection of  the administration’s policy on Syria’s opposition, which the U.S. is  expected to recognize following this week’s Friends of Syria meeting in Morocco.   “Al-Nusrah Front is one of many groups that are fighting the Syrian regime now. Its influence has grown over recent months, but it still represents a minority element within the broader armed opposition to the Assad regime,” said the same official.  ”So I don’t want to leave any kind of impressions that we are in any way acting against the broader Free Syrian Army, which is a much bigger organization.”
Experts and officials say the strength and numbers of extremist groups in Syria like Jabhat-Nusra have grown as the conflict has dragged on. A year ago, Jabhat al-Nusra carried out the first suicide bombing and dozens have followed. Videos have surfaced online of the summary executions they have carried out, notably several weeks ago when pleading Syrian soldiers were piled onto the floor and shot.   Administration officials did acknowledge they are concerned about the increasing influence radical Islamists are having on Syria’s opposition movement.
“When we think about that political transition, extremist groups that are denouncing the government and attacking the government… have no role in that transition and in a future Syria,” said one official who pointed out that the original protest movement in Syria, which began over a year ago, started out peacefully, demanding a tolerant and free Syria. “Nusrah Front rejects… a tolerant society, and insists that instead of elections there must be an Islamic state imposed upon Syria.”
In practical terms the designation means that Syrian opposition leaders will not be able to work with al-Nusrah and still receive U.S. support.  The administration’s announcement also served to “out” the group to Syrians who may be sympathetic, said the officials.   “It means that as al-Nusrah Front tries to wrap itself in the legitimacy of the opposition that does reflect the Syrian’s people desires, we have called them out, and for those who are seeking to support the legitimate opposition of the Syrian people, we have drawn a bright line,” said an official.
According to the administration, the group’s roots are in Iraq, and the sanctions against the two top leaders of the Nusrah front, Maysar Ali Musa Abdallah al-Juburi and Anas Hasan Khattab, have close ties to Al Qaeda in Iraq.  According to the officials, al-Juburi is the religious and military commander for the Nusrah Front in eastern Syria and came from Mosul, Iraq to Syria in late 2011. Khattab was involved with the formation of the Nusrah Front for AQI and has communicated with AQI leadership to coordinate the movement of funds and weapons for the Nusrah Front.
Today’s announcement also included more sanctions on the Assad regime; specifically leaders of the Iranian-backed Shabiha militia, which has been accused of brutally targeting civilians and illegally procuring weapons.  The officials said that it will be even-handed in condemning  human rights violations and terrorism in Syria.   “We will continue to target the thugs that have worked with the Assad militias, just as we will the terrorists who try to cloak themselves in the flag of the legitimate opposition,” said another official.

We spoke to Brown Moses about the increasingly sectarian nature of the violence in Syria, which has left many people asking if the conflict is taking a new direction.

A lot of the graphic footage coming out of Syria has been associated with extremist opposition groups but the name that has cropped up the most is Jabhat al-Nusra. But who are the secretive jihadists? Where do they come from and what links to they have with al Qaeda, Iraq and what have they got to do with The Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham?

The Al-Nusra Front or Jabhat al-Nusra (Arabicجبهة النصرة لأهل الشام‎ Jabhat an-Nuṣrah li-Ahl ash-Shām, "Front of Defence for the People of Greater Syria"), is an Al Qaeda associate operating in Syria.[8] The group announced its creation on 23 January 2012 during the Syrian civil war.[9] It is described as "the most aggressive and successful arm of the rebel force".[10] The group was designated by the United Nations[11] as a terrorist organisation and by the United States in December 2012.[12] In April 2013, the leader of the Islamic state of Iraq released an audio statement announcing that Jabhat al-Nusra is its branch in Syria.[5] The leader of Al Nusra, Abu Mohammad al-Golani, denied the merger but affirmed their allegiance to Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri.[13] By May 2013, a faction of Jabhat loyal to the Islamic State of Iraq leadership began acting under the name of the "Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham"
