A resident in Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures, west of Quebec City, has found some 80 dead pigeons on his property over the past three weeks. He discovered the first batch of 25 birds on Dec. 18 and other pigeons fell to the ground dead this past week as well.

Quebec wildlife officials have collected several bird specimen and sent them to a pathology laboratory in Quebec City.

A spokesman for the Natural Resources department said the analysis conducted so far have not inconclusive.

"This is something unusual and we take it very seriously, but at the same time we don't think there is any cause for worry," spokesman Nicolas Begin said Friday.

He said there doesn't appear to be any link between this case and the other recent massive birds die-off.
